ORGANIZATION: CUNY SPH Career Skills Academy

Apply to the Michael Meng Fellowship for Healthcare Business Innovation. POSITION:  Health and Disability Fellowship 

ORGANIZATION:  National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO)

The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) is recruiting for two graduate students to join the 2022-2023 Health and Disability Fellowship Program. This program offers an invaluable workforce development opportunity for graduate students seeking hands-on experience in the public health disability field. NACCHO trains the fellows to become leaders in promoting the health of people with disabilities through inclusive programming, products, and services. 

NACCHO’s Health and Disability Program (HDP) is supported by the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The program provides local health departments with the tools and resources needed to successfully include people with disabilities in all local health department activities.

This is a part-time paid fellowship ($18/hour) slated to start in November 2022 and run through July 31, 2023. The fellowship includes travel expenses and conference registration to at least one conference or meeting. ASL interpreter, captioning services, or other accommodations are available upon request. This position is fully remote with the fellows working from their graduate school location.

POSITION: Executive Director (P/T)

ORGANIZATION: Association of Occupational and Environmental Clinics (AOEC)

The Association of Occupational and Environmental Clinics (AOEC) is seeking a full- or part-time Executive Director (ED) to build on its rich history of advancing occupational health care for workers. Since its founding in 1987, AOEC has grown to a network of more than 60 clinics and more than 250 individuals committed to improving the practice of occupational and environmental medicine through information sharing and collaborative research. The ideal candidate will have public health, labor and/or government experience, be familiar with the AOEC mission and history and passionate about public health. The candidate will enjoy working collaboratively, have relationships with the CDC, NIOSH, ATSDR, NIEHS, OSHA, DOL, or EPA or equivalents at the State level, and have fundraising experience, with a track record of writing grants and contracts.

The successful candidate will take the helm of AOEC during a time of renewed energy and momentum for the labor movement and workers’ rights to decent and healthy working conditions. The COVID-19 pandemic shed a glaring light on the daily human tragedies happening in US workplaces. The AOEC has a long history of providing technical expertise for human exposure science, resources for occupational medicine and worker training programs, and support for the AOEC clinic network. AOEC solidly advocates for and supports workers directly by fighting for their right to the highest quality of preventive and clinical occupational health care. 

The next ED will build on the organization’s long history of active engagement with worker-oriented stakeholders in government, labor, academia, foundations, and community organizations. AOEC seeks to expand its reach, increase the number of clinic network members, and preserve its bedrock mission of supporting occupational health clinics and clinicians who provide occupational health and medicine services to workers.   

Major Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the financial operations of the association
  • Lead and actively engage in fundraising efforts via grants, contracts, philanthropy, and donations/gifts
  • Maintain and further develop critical relationships with stakeholders
  • Work with the AOEC Board of Directors to manage the organization’s operations, including planning for the future.
  • Provide leadership and supervision of core AOEC staff 

Skills, Qualifications, and Attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus at least 2 years management experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, labor studies, nursing, industrial hygiene, social work, or related studies, with a master’s degree preferred
  • Experience writing grant proposals to government agencies, foundations, or other organizations.
  • Experience setting up a social media communication strategy, managing a dynamic website, and ensuring regular written communication with members and stakeholders
  • Desired attributes: strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience with strategic and long-term planning; collegial, collaborative, and inclusive leadership and management skills
  • Preferences: Experience working for a national or local union or Committee on Occupational Safety Health (COSH) group; specialized training in occupational health, such as the Occupational Health Internship Program (OHIP) or other Dept of Labor/OSHA or political or non-profit organizations that focus on workers rights and health
  • Experience managing budgets for a non-profit entity, including submitting regular reports, facilitating audits, and communicating budget recommendations to the Board

POSITION: Assistant Director (P/T)

Healthy Schools Network, Inc, the nation’s leading voice for children’s environmental health at school and a national-award-winning 501(c)3 not-for-profit seeks a part-time Assistant Director to work with the Executive and the Board to advance children’s environmental health and improve environmental conditions of schools. The successful candidate will have previous state or federal level policy experience, not for profit office experience in the areas of public health, environment, journalism, disaster preparedness, and or K-12 education. The person will assistant the executive with all aspects of the organization, including national and state outreach, policy development, advocacy, fund-raising, and office management.

Internet technical skills are essential. 

PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Assist the executive with all aspects of the organization, including:

   Primary responsibility for organizing National Healthy Schools Day annually;

   Coordinate and schedule policy outreach with NGO partners;

   Maintain and update current educational/informational resources;

  Participate in program outreach and advocacy, as well as in fund development.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Oversee or maintain day-to-day office procedures, record keeping, email correspondence
  • Manage office online presence: website, social media (Facebook and Twitter), email lists.

POSITION: aLHS Scholars Program, NIH-funded training program

The Academic Learning Health System (aLHS) Scholars Program –  is an innovative postdoctoral training program in the emerging area of Learning Health System Science that is offered through the Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston Salem, NC. 

The aLHS Scholars Program provides a unique curriculum and the opportunity to conduct healthcare research under the guidance of an interdisciplinary team of mentors. The curriculum includes training in biomedical informatics, implementation science, organizational change, leadership, health systems research ethics, and grant writing. Participants will also engage in a practicum experience that will involve being immersed in an interdisciplinary team to improve healthcare delivery.

The Program has a rolling acceptance process and offers both 1- and 2-year training opportunities.

The Program is designed to prepare participants for successful careers in health systems research and improvement and is supported through an NIH training award. Participants receive NIH-scale postdoctoral stipends, health benefits and tuition benefits.

 

Upon completion, participants will be equipped with the methodological and professional skills to conduct research in the complex environments of health systems and to disseminate and implement evidence-based findings into clinical practice.

POSITION: Postdoctoral Fellow

The Maryland Institute for Applied Environmental Health lab within the University of Maryland School of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual for the grant funded position of Postdoctoral Fellow. This individual will join a dynamic team committed to working with public health and social justice leaders from academia, community, government and beyond for our NIEHS-funded project, Research Employing Environmental Systems and Occupational Health Policy Analyses to Interrupt the Impact of Structural Racism on Agricultural Workers and Their Respiratory Health (RESPIRAR). 

The long‐term goal of RESPIRAR is to unpack the mechanisms through which structural racism shapes respiratory health trends among Black and/or Latinx migrant seasonal farmworkers and to inform the design of policies and best practices for optimizing the living and working conditions and better health protections among these vulnerable workers. 

The Postdoctoral Fellow will lead primary data collection (environmental and human sample collection and interviews with farmworkers), qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and assist with dissemination of findings (e.g., papers, reports, and issue briefs).  Additionally, the Postdoctoral Fellow will have the opportunity to learn about system dynamics methods and participate in community-based system dynamics (CBSD) workshops with stakeholders. 

This position is for a one‐ year appointment, with a multi-year duration possible, contingent upon satisfactory performance and continued funding. Anticipated start date is late Fall 2022/ Winter 2023
