Applications are invited for an exciting research opportunity under the direction of Dr. Victoria Ngo, Director of the Center for Innovation in Mental Health and PI of multiple domestic and global mental health studies, including the Harlem Strong Initiative and Building Resiliency in Youth (BRY).
About the Project:
Harlem Strong Initiative (NIMH U01) is a community-wide multisector collaborative to transform how mental health services are delivered in Harlem. The goals are to (1) problem solve financing, access, and quality of care barriers, (2) support capacity building for mental health task-sharing for community health workers, (3) facilitate coordination and collaboration across mental health / behavioral health, primary care, and social services, and (4) identify a set of common metrics and strategies for continuous system quality improvement. The research study will evaluate the impact and cost-effectiveness using a hybrid Implementation-Effectiveness design to assess effects of the Harlem Strong Collaborative on system and consumer outcomes.
Part-time positions and full-time positions will be based in the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Policy; research assistants will work closely with Dr. Ngo and the research team to support implementation of this project, along with analysis of large dataset of implementation and outcome data. Placement into part-time and full-time post baccalaureate or master-level positions will be based on previous experience and availability. There will also be training opportunities to build research and grant development skills, along with learning about the grant funding process. A one-year commitment is required, and longer-term commitment is preferred as these projects are multi-year projects.
This opportunity will provide research assistants with opportunities to develop research, clinical, and training skills to support community partnered mental health implementation science studies, publish, present, and gain experience in mental health task-sharing in community collaboratives. Key responsibilities:

Qualifications:

- Strong interest in community-based interventions, health equity, disparities, minority mental health, social determinants of health
- Experience conducting research in culturally diverse contexts, experience working with CBOs in New York City is preferred
- Literacy in Spanish (reading and speaking) preferred

Project Description: The Public Health & Trails Intern will support the Citywide Trails Team, a
partnership between NYC Parks and the Natural Areas Conservancy (NAC), to launch a programming engagement that frames and addresses the public health concerns of communities around natural area trails. The intern will compile existing public health datasets in NYC and develop a report on relevant public health indicators citywide that correlate with existing parks with nature trails to serve as a basis for a future trail & public health campaign. The report will be the first step in building a partnership with a public health institution to engage around targeted public programming of trails to address public health concerns and to create a tool kit for engaging communities around trails to improve public health.
Eligible applicants for the Internship are current students and recent graduates (up to 2 years post-graduate).
Project Deliverables:
● Produce a report detailing relevant public health indicators and the potential impact of trails on those health indicators
● Research potential public health partner institutions

The City of New York’s Public Engagement Unit (PEU) was created in 2015 to serve New Yorkers in historically underserved neighborhoods and connect them to key City services, using innovative methods of proactive outreach. Elephant Circle is currently seeking a Community Organizing & Public Policy Intern who will assist with the following projects:
– Develop youth programming and youth-facing birth justice education materials for pregnant and parenting young people in the Colorado area and beyond.
– Assist in creating the infrastructure for a range of storytelling and artmaking opportunities for survivors of obstetric racism and obstetric violence.
– Collaborate on social media efforts to expand access to justice for pregnant and postpartum people who are seeking justice for obstetric racism and/or obstetric violence.
– Help develop an innovative policy tracking system that traces and maps policies related to family regulation in Colorado and potentially in other parts of the country.
– Conduct research and draft reports on a range of topics relating to access to birth justice, including interstate issues related to birth and birthworkers, municipal funding streams for birth in CO, and healthcare provider training surrounding sexual assault and obstetric violence.
– Draft certain written materials such as know-your-rights documents, blog posts, and advocacy toolkits pertaining to birth justice and birth justice accountability
– Attend coalition calls on Elephant Circle’s behalf as a representative of the organization.
This is an unpaid position, but we are happy to work with candidates who wish to seek external funding or academic credit to support their work with EC. Interns should expect to work primarily remotely with some in-person activities.

The Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies is administrative home to a newly funded NIH Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE). This $12 million, 5-year grant, has established the Center for Addiction and Disease Risk Exacerbation (CADRE) beginning August 2019. Our thematic focus is on the relationship between substance use and chronic disease. With the implementation of the university-wide diversity and inclusion action plan, and the recruitment of faculty with interests addressing disparities in vulnerable populations, we are seeking to recruit a postdoctoral research associate with interests in addressing substance use issues in high risk, low SES vulnerable populations, especially in racial and ethnic minority populations. The postdoctoral research associate will primarily work with one or a team of the following faculty comprising the leadership of CADRE: Peter Monti, PhD (PI and Director), Jasjit S. Ahluwalia, MD, MPH (Deputy Director) and Jennifer Tidey PhD (Core Leader). Opportunities to participate in ongoing studies, new pilot studies, work on team grant writing, and write one’s own grant are available.
CAAS research includes laboratory studies of alcohol, tobacco and marijuana use; clinical trials testing behavioral and pharmacologic interventions; studies of intervention mechanisms (using electronic diaries, cue reactivity, behavioral economics, and analysis of therapeutic process variables), alcohol/HIV research, and tobacco regulatory science. CAAS currently has over 60 research grants focused on alcohol and other drug use, representing nearly $11.2 million in direct costs per year.
The postdoc research associate will join the robust training platform of Brown’s renowned T32 programs in substance use funded by NIDA and NIAAA (https://www.brown.edu/public- health/caas/postdoctoral-training-program). This includes structured didactic seminars, supervised research experience, manuscript writing (first and co-authored papers), and an intensive mentored grant writing process. POSITION: Postgraduate Research Associate

We are seeking a Postgraduate Research Associate for a position to join our team in the Yale AIDS Program at the Yale School of Medicine. The candidate will conduct/coordinate two ongoing domestic projects directly related to HIV and substance use prevention among people who inject drugs (PWID). The position is suitable for an early career public health professional seeking additional training in clinical research; MPH students set to graduate in Spring 2022 are welcome to apply.
We are seek candidates with the following attributes:
· Passion for increasing equity and engaging with vulnerable populations,
· Experience operating studies, including: questionnaire development, IRB protocol management, coordinating schedules, interviewing, analyses, and publication writing,
· Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
The ideal candidate should have completed a graduate program in a health-related field (e.g., MPH, Health Promotion, Psychology; or plan to graduate by May 2022), but has not yet received a doctoral degree and is seeking advanced scientific training for a duration of 1 year, with possible extension to include a second year of training. Prior clinical research experience, particularly with people with substance use disorder, is a plus but not required. The Postgraduate Associate position is one year in duration, with a starting salary of $38,069.
The position is full time and in-person in New Haven, Connecticut. Ideally, we are looking for someone who would be able to start by or around June 1st, but there is some flexibility.

POSITION: Postdoctoral Associate
ORGANIZATION: Weill Cornell Medicine
The postdoctoral associate will engage in collaborative research with the IMPOWR research network aimed at developing and testing integrative strategies of chronic pain and opioid use disorder that is funded by the National Institutes of Health Helping to End Addiction Long-term (NIH HEAL) Initiative. The postdoctoral associate will lead the implementation of cost and cost-effectiveness evaluations alongside three clinical trials. In addition, the postdoctoral associate will engage in population data-driven health services and policy studies aimed at improving access to, outcomes of, and equity in evidence-based treatments for substance use, mental health, and co-existing medical conditions.
The postdoctoral associate will be supervised and mentored by Dr. Yuhua Bao, an associate professor at Weill Cornell Medicine and leading health economist in the field. The postdoctoral associate will meet, collaborate, and receive additional support from affiliated investigators with complementary expertise.
This postdoctoral opportunity is enriched by the research infrastructure provided by the Center for Health Economics of Treatment Interventions for Substance Use Disorder, HCV, and HIV (CHERISH), a multi-institutional Center of Excellence, funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). The Center’s mission is to develop and disseminate health economic research on healthcare utilization, health outcomes, and health-related behaviors that informs substance use disorder treatment policy and HCV and HIV care of people who use substances.
Responsibilities:
The postdoctoral associate will receive appropriate training and conduct methodological studies in the following areas:

Collecting, analyzing, and reporting data from various types of clinical trial designs, including multi-armed, adaptive, stepped wedge and cluster randomized controlled trials

Research designs of comparative economic and effectiveness evaluations conducted alongside clinical trials and cohort studies
-
Econometric and advanced statistical methods for analyzing healthcare service utilization, cost, and measures commonly reported in cost-effectiveness studies (e.g., quality-adjusted life-years) of health interventions.
The postdoctoral associate will also leverage several ongoing federally funded projects and receive training and conduct methodological studies in the following areas:

Designing and conducting observational research studies

Building analytical files using population administrative data (Medicare, Medicaid, or commercial claims databases) to support specific research questions

Implementing advanced statistical modeling (e.g., embedding quasi-experimental designs and with assessments of assumptions and sensitivity analysis)

Disseminating research findings through team manuscript development, conference abstracts, and other venues
Qualifications:
Applicants must currently hold a doctoral degree in a relevant area of study or will receive such a degree before the start of employment. The successful candidate will also have:

POSITION: Fellowship/Trainee Program
ORGANIZATION: Research to Policy Collaboration
This opportunity allows junior scholars to gain hands-on experience with practicing and/or studying the cutting-edge of research translation for policy audiences. Trainees join the team as interns, becoming involved in at least one project. After interning for at least 150 hours, interns are promoted to fellows and given the opportunity to participate in a broader array of activities and may take on leadership positions relative to interns. Our trainee program is entirely remote, with meetings through Zoom and tasks discussed via project management software and Slack. If you reside in the DC area, however, there may be opportunities to attend in-person meetings with federal staffers, as public health guidelines allow.
Trainees generally join one of two teams: Policy/Implementation or Evaluation/Data. Opportunities to either join both teams simultaneously or switch between them may be available based on trainees’ skills and goals. The Polio and Picornavirus Laboratory Branch (PPLB) has responsibility for supporting 1) the domestic polio vaccine program to maintain polio elimination in the United States, and 2) the Global Poliovirus Eradication Initiative (GPEI), which was launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1988 with the aim of eradicating polio worldwide. As a Specialized Reference Laboratory in the Global Polio Laboratory Network, PPLB is increasingly being called on to provide laboratory assistance and technical expertise and support for surveillance and related activities to monitor the impact of polio vaccination. The Polio Molecular and Development Laboratory (PMDDL) is the premier diagnostic assay reference laboratory in the Global Polio Laboratory Network (GPLN). The core work of PMDDL is to develop assays of polioviruses to meet the changing needs of the GPEI, provide support to GPLN laboratories in the form of consultations, training workshops, proficiency panels, and testing kits.
Duties
The incumbent will:
Lead and/or independently conduct biomedical research projects using laboratory methods (both established and adapted) to further the mission of the organization, develop research proposals that demonstrate a thorough understanding of subject matter, relevant literature, research concepts and laboratory techniques in the field of microbiology.
Follow sound laboratory practice and scientific theory when adapting standard operating procedures to address new research questions, analyze data to ensure validity and accuracy using advanced data viz systems. Contribute to the preparation of protocols, SOPs, training materials, or other products that document or communicate technical procedures or findings.
Manage activities of a work group for a specific purpose and defined time, coordinate with team members on work plans, provide oversight of the work of students, less-experienced employees, graduate students and visiting scientists through training and mentoring as needed. Communicate effectively with external partners, internal partners and provide excellent customer service.
Maintain a safe work environment and quality systems in compliance with the CDC Infectious Diseases Laboratories Quality Management System (QMS) and regulatory requirements, actively participates in the continual improvement of the QMS, ensure quality control and upkeep of laboratory and procedures, to include ordering and maintaining equipment and supplies, document control and competency assessments.
Write, analyze, and synthesize research and study results into written documents and/or oral presentations, using tailored communication and data visualization techniques. Communicate oral and written information to various audiences. Prepare research findings, reports, and articles for appropriate audiences/stakeholders, including peer-reviewed publication. Make presentations at international and national conferences, and global laboratory meetings.
Qualifications
Basic Qualification:
Education
Degree: microbiology; or biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included at least 20 semester hours in microbiology and other subjects related to the study of microorganisms, and 20 semester hours in the physical and mathematical sciences combining course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra, or their equivalent.

Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Agency Required Educational Qualifications:
Doctoral level degree in the fields listed above;
One year of related postdoctoral experience at the next lower grade level related to the work of the position in the Federal service or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector, or nongovernmental organizations.
Highly qualified candidates would possess the following:
Fellow’s qualifications include, but not limited to knowledge of the principles, concepts, research methods, and techniques of microbiology; experience in design, optimization, analysis, and reporting of microbiological and/or molecular methods; demonstrated skills in performing training and/or technical workshops in the field; ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, to make clear, scientifically sound presentations, provide specific technical assistance; and ability to use interpersonal relationship skills to establish and maintain effective working relations with global partners.
Mastery of complex and unique microbiology concepts, advanced problem-solving and data analysis skills in the field is necessary for the advancement of projects. Assignments are driven by their global nature and areas of uncertainty in methodology, that result from factors such as programmatic changes driven by unforeseen events.
