CUNY SPH Assistant Professor Ann Gaba will be honored with an Outstanding Dietetics Educator Award (ODEA) by Nutrition and Dietetics Educators and Preceptors (NDEP). The award recognizes the teaching, mentoring, and leadership activities of faculty in dietetics education programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics. Dr. Gaba was honored as Dietetic Internship Director for the Northeast region.
Gaba founded and developed the Dietetic Internship at CUNY SPH, prioritizing the success of her interns through active learning strategies and student-centered techniques. She developed a virtual clinical simulation for the program which includes diverse patient scenarios providing a way to practice the nutrition care process and obtain feedback. She developed a year-long asynchronous seminar course focusing on review and preparation for the Registered Dietitian Exam. She has also served as a mentor to new internship directors and program alumni.
Gaba has utilized her skills as an educator to co-author two chapters in Communicating Nutrition – the Authoritative Guide, one chapter on video production and one on writing for professional journals.
“I am honored to be recognized by my NDEP peers with this prestigious award, and look forward to continuing on this path with future cohorts of interns,” Gaba says.
Dr. Gaba will be presented the award at the virtual NDEP annual meeting, which will be held April 26-28.
