POSITION: Social Media College Student
ORGANIZATION: CUNY SPH – Center for Advanced Technology and Communication in Health (CATCH) and Public Health Informatics, Computational, and Operations Research (PHICOR)
General purpose:
As a member of PHICOR and CATCH, the Social Media College Student will be responsible for assisting with developing and implementing the social media strategy and creating high-quality, sharable content. This position will drive the implementation of impactful social media tactics and content to support the vision and goals of PHICOR and CATCH.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Communications Director to develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy.
- Work with the Communications Director to produce and schedule compelling social media-friendly content across all platforms.
- Translate research and science to a lay audience. Work closely with communications and research team to ensure integration across platforms and campaigns.
- Collaborate with communications and research team to identify and prioritize effective content creation and storytelling opportunities.
- Monitor social media platforms in the event of crisis communications events. Use professional judgment to address comments, trends, or issues proactively when needed.
- Monitor online commentary and engagement. Provide reports and analysis on social media and continually seek to improve messaging, reach, and engagement.
- Stay current on social media campaigns, current events, trends, and tools.
- Make proactive recommendations for improvement and enhancement across all platforms.
Qualifications:
- Motivated and creative, with at least 1 year of social media experience.
- Proven blend of storytelling skills and social media tactics.
- Experience using social media platforms for paid advertising.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage deadlines.
- Ability to work 15-20 hours a week Monday – Friday.

- Develops and maintains information to generate various reports for the team.

- Composes, edits, types and distributes various form letters and correspondence; creates and maintains necessary files.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Director of Operations and Dr. Bruce Lee.

POSITION: Communications Coordinator

Position Summary: African Services Committee (ASC) is seeking a Communications Coordinator to be based at our office in New York City. The Communications Coordinator will work closely with the Communications Director to ensure that all communications activities are integrated to support ASC’s (1) fundraising campaigns; (2) advocacy initiatives; and (3) health, housing, legal, educational, and social service programs.
Responsibilities:

About PEU
The City of New York’s Public Engagement Unit (PEU) was created in 2015 to serve New Yorkers in historically underserved neighborhoods and connect them to key City services, using innovative methods of proactive outreach. PEU’s model has proven particularly critical in the midst of the global pandemic, a severe economic crisis, and now a challenging recovery. PEU’s programs are delivered by four outreach teams:

- GetCoveredNYC: Helps enroll New Yorkers in health insurance, including low- and no-cost coverage.
- Home Support Unit: Helps New Yorkers in homeless shelters find and move into permanent, stable housing.
- Tenant Support Unit: Helps keep tenants secure in their homes by connecting them to rent freeze and homeowner tax exemption programs, anti-eviction and repair resources, and access to NYC’s Right to Counsel program.
In addition to helping New Yorkers every day through core programs, PEU has been front and center of vital COVID-19 and Hurricane Ida recovery and relief efforts.
Job Description
PEU communications interns will work 25 hours per week and receive ongoing training in order to assist PEU’s Communications Director and PEU’s outreach teams, while building professional skills. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Scanning and compiling daily media reports for stories relevant to PEU’s core work
- Drafting social media content for PEU channels
- Creating social media toolkits for agency and community partners
- Designing social media graphics and flyers to be distributed by PEU outreach teams
- Generating and revising copy for websites when needed
- Supporting the development of press releases, statements, advisories, columns, op-eds, talking points, and internal briefings
- Tracking and circulating relevant news clips to various PEU team members
- Supporting the Communications Director, Senior Advisor for Communications, Chief of Staff, and Deputy Chief of Staff
- Entering, tracking and analyzing data
- Working with translators on content translation and proofreading
- Joining team meetings and program planning sessions

The CDC Evaluation Fellowship Program is now accepting applications for the 2022 class (estimated start date August 15, 2022). The Program Performance and Evaluation Office (PPEO) manages the Fellowship under the leadership of CDC’s Chief Evaluation Officer (Dan Kidder). Fellows are master’s- or doctoral-level professionals with applied evaluation experience. The Fellowship is intended to be a two-year program, with the second year being contingent on satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
Fellows are placed in host programs across the agency working on program evaluation activities. The Evaluation Fellowship offers a unique training opportunity with clear expectations and supportive resources, including professional development funds provided by the host program. In this experiential learning model, Fellows learn evaluation skills working in their host program while helping their host program build, expand, and/or improve their evaluation activities.
Fellows are hired under Title 42 training appointments and receive significant financial support for professional development and CDC employee benefits (e.g., medical insurance, sick and vacation leave).

The Fordham HIV and Drug Abuse Prevention Research Ethics Training Institute (RETI) offers ethics training and a $30,000 small grant award to conduct a mentored research project (MRP) that will contribute to evidence-based HIV and drug abuse research ethics policies and procedures. RETI fellows make a 2-year commitment that includes two in-person summer programs in 2022 and 2023 including fully funded travel, lodging, and meals.

The Institute is directed by Celia B. Fisher, PhD, internationally recognized expert in evidence-based research ethics policy and practice.
Institute Fellows:
- Gain expertise in national and international HIV and drug abuse research ethics issues
- Acquire community engagement skills to enhance the population and cultural sensitivity of the mentored research project.
- Receive mentoring and faculty and peer feedback for their funded project
- Obtain continuous assistance in publishing, presenting, and writing grant proposals
- Mentored Research Project (MRP)
- During the 2022 summer institute, fellows receive mentoring and faculty and peer feedback on the design of their mentored research project.
- Fellows receive a grant of up to $30,000 for the MRP upon project approval.
- MRP data collection is expected to be completed during Year 1 and presented during the 2023 summer institute.
- Findings submitted for publication, presentation or as pilot data with publication and grant writing workshops offered during Year 2.

Applicants must have: (a) a medical or doctoral degree in social, behavioral, public health or related fields, (b) demonstrated scholarship in HIV and drug abuse prevention research; (c) no more than 10 years post-doctoral experience; and (d) meet requirements to apply for NIH funding, but have not yet received an R01 (Career Development K awards are acceptable). Special attention will be given to those applicants whose proposed research ethics plan includes drug-using populations. This 1-year postdoctoral fellowship is designed to prepare the trainee for a career as an independent investigator in research emphasizing community-based participatory research, innovative community-based behavioral interventions for cardiovascular health promotion, digital and mobile health (mHealth) interventions, cardiovascular health and diseases disparities and psychosocial influences on cardiovascular health.
The FAITH! Program places a priority on health equity by partnering with communities and key stakeholders to create innovative solutions to health disparities to allow everyone to achieve the highest possible level of well-being and health. mentoring from an experienced faculty PI and community partners) and interdisciplinary research training (including participation in field work in marginalized and underserved communities and secondary data analyses from current funded studies and population-based cohort studies). POSITION: The Hispanic Leadership Development Fellowship Program

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities has partnered with the National Hispanic Medical Association to offer The Hispanic Leadership Development Fellowship Program, as part of a grant from the Office of Minority Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Applications are currently being accepted from graduate students or recent graduates interested in serving in a paid one-year leadership fellowship from April 11, 2022-April 10, 2023, in Washington, D.C.
Ten fellows will be chosen to work on-site at the HHS and gain valuable experience, with at least two rotations at different agencies within HHS. Fellows will work one on one with a senior-level staff mentor and will receive experience in federal-level work underserved communities at the national level.

- Current graduate student or have received a graduate degree within two years of the program start date.

POSITION: The Mark & Sushma Palmer Public Health Advocacy Fellowship

The Mark & Sushma Palmer Public Health Advocacy Fellowship provides a two-year, full-time position to an early career public health professional to help them develop valuable advocacy and research skills while promoting nutrition, public health and citizen advocacy.
The Policy Fellow advocates for improved nutrition and health policy with local, state and federal policy makers and engages health professionals, academics, and concerned citizens in supporting nutrition policies. This position reports to the Senior Policy Associate and is available either in CSPI’s Washington, DC office or remotely.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with the Senior Policy Associate to develop and implement advocacy goals and strategies for nutrition policy campaigns. Collaborate with outreach and capacity building, communications, scientific, legal, and other policy staff.
- Strengthen existing relationships and broaden support for food and nutrition policies with partners and elected and appointed officials at the national, state, and local levels, including groups and individuals advocating for public health, racial and health equity and social justice.
- Provide technical assistance, materials, and strategic advice to organizations, coalitions, and policy makers, mobilize grassroots, support federal, state and local advocacy (including lobbying) efforts in support of food and nutrition policies.
- Write and develop advocacy materials, including: fact sheets, reports, letters, social media posts, testimony, petitions, infographics, talking points, and action alerts.
- Review scientific literature to inform policy positions and advocacy strategies.
- Organize and represent CSPI at meetings, events, briefings, webinars, calls, and with the press.
- Supervise interns.
- Carry out other departmental activities as needed.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree (MS, MPH, MPP) in health, policy or nutrition; or Bachelor’s degree plus two years of public health or policy experience.
