POSITION: Multiple tenure and practice track positions
ORGANIZATION: Cornell MPH Program
Founded on principles of sustainability, equity and engagement, Cornell University’s Master of Public Health (MPH) Program seeks a mix of three tenure-track and professorial practice-track faculty, at the assistant or associate level, each committed to changing the world through teaching, research and practice. Responsibilities include teaching public health courses, pursuing scholarship that promotes the interdependent health of humans, animals, and the environment, and engaging in practice that benefits community partners throughout New York State and the world.
Teaching, research and practice efforts will capitalize on candidates’ areas of strength and interests. Instruction will utilize traditional and intensive classroom instruction, as well as online and/or hybrid modalities, for MPH, DVM/MPH, and MD/MPH students. Teaching will primarily include delivery of core courses (e.g. public health foundations, biostatistics, and epidemiology), methods courses (e.g. assessing community needs, designing interventions, and monitoring & evaluation), and advising on applied and integrative projects. Successful candidates will perform applied, impact-oriented research, and/or engage with community partners in practice activities blending research, teaching/training, and service. Faculty will publish in scholarly journals as well as disseminate learning to produce tangible benefits to stakeholders, and will pursue extramural funding as appropriate to support scholarly activities.
We seek a mix of disciplinary approaches. Special consideration will be given to those with demonstrated practice/applied experience in social justice and One Health intersections of human, animal and environmental health.
Stellar candidates from all fields relevant to sustainable and equitable public health will be considered; however, we have special interest in:
Infectious disease epidemiology: Successful candidate(s) will have significant applied research and/or practice experience with infectious diseases of importance to human health, working on topics such as antimicrobial resistance, biodefense, disease surveillance, vector-borne disease, and other zoonotic diseases. Ability to teach biostatistics and/or advanced epidemiology is preferred. Veterinary epidemiologists are also encouraged to apply if they work at the One Health interface with human health.
Public health practice: Successful candidate(s) will perform practice and research on linkages between the health of humans and the environment, such as social justice, environmental justice, non-communicable disease, climate change, disaster preparedness and response, and biodiversity loss. Successful candidates will address underlying social and/or environmental inequities that promote disease and harm well-being. Experienced public health practitioners are encouraged to apply.
Successful candidates must have advanced training in public health (MPH, DrPH, or equivalent), allied health professions (e.g. DVM/VMD, MD, or equivalent), relevant fields of research (PhD), or combinations thereof. Those with multidisciplinary training and practice or applied research experience are preferred. Salary, rank and title will be commensurate with academic credentials, experience, duties, and Program needs. Hires are expected in both tenure track and professor-of-practice title families.
Cornell University is located in Ithaca, New York. The University offers an exciting work environment with opportunities for innovative and interdisciplinary practice, research, and teaching. Public health activities cross the Ithaca campus and Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City, serving New York State, the United States, and the world.
To apply, submit a cover letter including statement of career goals including whether you would like consideration for a tenure-track or practice-track position (up to 2 pages); curriculum vitae; and separate statements describing (i) your practice and/or research interests and plans (up to 4 pages), (ii) teaching philosophy (up to 1 page), (iii) contributions to inclusion and diversity (up to 1 page), as well as three letters of reference. Review of completed applications will begin November 15, 2021 and continue until the positions are filled. Details: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/20094.
What is a Statement of Contribution to Inclusion and Diversity? This statement invites applicants to describe their past, present, and/or future aspirations for promoting equity, inclusion, and diversity in their careers as practitioners, researchers and educators, including how they see these commitments continuing at Cornell.

Interested students must apply by October 31, and should begin by completing our summer application.
For students who wish to more quickly apply for fall and other more immediate opportunities, our platform offers the option of completing an abbreviated application that requires only academic information and a resume upload. In addition to current undergraduate and graduate students, our application is also open to those who graduated in spring 2020 or later. This option may particularly appeal to this population.
