POSITION: Part-time College Assistant
ORGANIZATION: CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy

General Duties and Responsibilities

The Office of Admissions seeks a part-time College Assistant to provide clerical and customer support. The College Assistant reports to the Director of Admissions and will be responsible for:

  • Representing the school at recruitment events
  • Meeting with prospective students to answer questions about the application process and the school
  • Answering/transferring incoming calls
  • Providing assistance to Admissions Office staff
  • General office duties including photocopying, responding to inquiries, updating and maintaining recruitment materials
  • Assisting in setting up and organizing events

Maximum tenure for any employee in this hourly position is 1040 hours per year.  Must be willing to work evenings.  No weekend commitment required.

Qualification Requirements

Current CUNY SPH graduate student in an MPH or MS program. Excellent customer service, professional attitude and appearance. The selected individual will be a “student ambassador” who must be knowledgeable about the School’s programs and curriculum. Must be detail oriented and able to multi-task with strong communication skills. The candidate must also be proficient in Microsoft Office.

ORGANIZATION: NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene 

HRTP: A Public Health Internship Program at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) is accepting applications for our Spring 2022 internship session. 

The program is open to undergraduate, graduate and professional school students of public health, health education, laboratory sciences, medicine, social work, environmental engineering, public administration, accounting, mathematics, computer science, law, nursing, the social sciences, and many other majors.  HRTP offers dynamic internships in public health research, community health outreach and education, fieldwork, laboratory work and public health administration. 

The application period for our Spring 2022 session is open from October 15 – November 15, 2021.

POSITION: Post-doctoral Fellowships in Women’s Health
ORGANIZATION: Washington University in St. Louis 

Funded Training for Postdocs interested in Women’s Health

Washington University in St. Louis is pleased to accept postdoctoral fellowship applications for multiple openings in our established NIDDK-sponsored T32 program. Fellowship openings begin as early as July 1, 2022, for this training program designed to advance prevention and health outcomes research in the field of women’s health.

Fellows in our “Clinical Outcomes Research Training in Female Lower Urinary Tract Disorders” program will receive coursework customized to their research and goals, access to local and national data, a multi-faceted career development program, support to develop and apply for research grants, up to three years of funding with competitive benefits, and more! Fellows will also have the unique opportunity to develop their research portfolio in women’s health through independent research and by contributing to ongoing multidisciplinary research projects on topics such as risk factors for and maternal outcomes of childbirth-related injuries, urologic side-effects of cancer treatment, cost-effectiveness of incontinence management strategies, prevention strategies for recurrent urinary tract infections, and modeling surgical outcomes using machine learning. Dedicated mentors that are leading experts in their fields work alongside fellows and represent a variety of specialties.

Eligible applicants will have an MD, PhD, or other doctoral degree, and an interest in prevention and health outcomes research. Applicants from a diverse set of backgrounds (e.g., Epidemiology, Public Health and Policy, Maternal Health, Implementation Science, Biostatistics, Health Economics, Computational and Data Sciences, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Engineering, Kinesiology, Psychology, Sociology, and Anthropology) are encouraged to apply. PhD candidates do not need prior experience in women’s health to be considered.

POSITION: The Maintainers Movement Fellowship

The Maintainers Movement Fellowship is a year-long fellowship intended to advance the movement for maintenance thinking and action. The fellowship will bring together a group of individuals who are interested in learning from and with their peers; communicating complex ideas in accessible ways for a broad audience, and partnering with The Maintainers staff to advance our vision for a more caring and well-maintained world. The Maintainers Movement Fellowship is looking for applicants whose maintenance, repair, and care work has substantial connections to the environment.

Fellowship Highlights:

  • Our estimated time commitment, based on the scope of individual and cohort activities, is about 2 to 5 hours a week.
  • The fellowship will run from January-December 2022.
  • We will select up to 4 fellows who will work individually as well as together in a cohort.
  • This research fellowship is open to applicants based in the United States as well as internationally
  • Each fellow will receive a stipend of $10,000 USD each to participate in activities and publish their work.

POSITION: Postdoctoral Surgical Research Scholar
ORGANIZATION: Department of Surgery at Westchester Medical Center (WMC)

Overview

This post-doctoral position requires an individual ready to actively participate in our dedicated surgical outcomes research program. The incumbent will make major contributions and improve our standing as a leading research institution addressing surgical outcomes. Successful candidates will design, implement, complete, analyze, and prepare manuscripts on studies related to surgical outcomes. The Surgical Research Scholar is expected to: possess attention to detail; be able to communicate effectively at all levels; exhibit initiative; work well with others and independently; and comply with all Westchester Medical Center (WMC) and New York Medical College (NYMC) procedures regarding clinical research.

Responsibilities

  •       Engage in all aspects of research projects: draft Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols; collect data; validate data; analyze data; prepare, submit and present conference abstracts; and draft and submit journal manuscripts/book chapters.
  •       Identify research gaps in surgical outcome literatures and propose research projects.
  •       Partner with and offer guidance and consultation to students, residents, fellows and professionals in the Department of Surgery.
  •       Participate and present in meetings with the Chair, investigators, Department of Surgery Clinical Research Unit (DSCRU) staff and clinical staff.
  •       Assist in obtaining research funding.

 

Qualifications

(A) Education requirement:

PhD, DrPH, ScD or DPhil in epidemiology, statistics, health services research and clinical/translational research or related disciplines.

(B) Licenses or certifications:

N/A.

(C) Skills/requirements:

  •       Expertise is needed in these areas: research design & methods, statistics, preparing funding requests and publishing journal articles.
  •       Knowledge is required in regression modeling (including logistic, linear, Poisson/negative binomial, and Cox models); techniques for repeated measures, analysis of variance, hierarchical/mixed models, time series analysis, receiver operating curve analysis and meta-analysis.
  •       Proficiency is required in statistical software packages as well as Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
  •       It would be helpful to have knowledge of real world healthcare, electronic medical records, and/or biomedical informatics.

(D) Prior experience:

Two to three years of epidemiologic, public health, health services or clinical research experience. Qualified individuals must work well independently. The individual must have excellent people skills. You should be able to implement projects and adjust them to meet current and future criteria as necessary. Must be able to adapt to changes quickly.
