Organization Description
Public Health Solutions provide a range of services to vulnerable New Yorkers across the five boroughs. We have long observed that lack of coordination between social services create confusion and increase of barriers to access, particularly for vulnerable New Yorkers. We are committed to implement a Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) strategy where clients are supported for the broad range of needs and priorities they have. From using SDOH screening tools to simply asking “What matters to you most now”, we seek to engage potential and existing recipients of services in conversations that can better define what best meet their needs. Our legacy internship partnership with the CUNY’s School of Public Health seek to support PHS in addressing this challenge. In 2020, the inaugural intern conducted a landscape analysis of tools currently used at PHS and led interviews with multiple PHS staff to elicit what the gaps were and formulate recommendations about addressing these gaps. In 2021, we are turning our attention to PHS clients to gain a better understanding of their priorities with regards to services coordination.
Position Description
The main activities of this internship will be focused on strengthening our understanding of client’s perceptions and priorities regarding coordination of SDOH services.
1) Brief desk literature review of appropriate best practices and client engagement strategies regarding coordination of social services aimed at addressing SDOH needs
2) Analyze data from existing client satisfaction survey and present results and key lessons learned
3) In collaboration with the Supervisor, develop and pilot a client-focused survey to:
* Deepen our understanding of client’s goals and expectations regarding service coordination
* Elicit information about social services coordination, what is needed, and what success is
4) Conduct the survey
5) Analyze and present results and recommendations.
In addition, the selected intern may be asked to actively collaborate on another related projects focused on client engagement and participation in the definition of quality. This may include
6) Participating in other survey data collection and data analysis as requested
7) Conducting additional literature review
Student responsibilities and activities: With guidance and support from the supervisors, the student will be in charge of executing the work plan laid out in the activities above.
Skills & Qualifications
This practicum is ideal for students interested in translational or implementation science and passionate about equity and community engagement. Project management skills and interest in simple survey information with a mix of qualitative and quantitative elements. Ability to establish an excellent rapport with colleagues. Spanish preferred, but not required. Previous experience (even brief) working in social services preferred, but not required.
Final product(s)/deliverables: Survey results presentation and recommendation.

Position Description
BronxWorks is hiring a volunteer Research Assistant for its Bronx PEACH Program
Under the direction of the Program Manager, the research assistant will provide administrative support to program manager and program staff in the administrative needs of the program and the team. Furthermore, candidate will be responsible for research duties including obtaining consent form and conducting assessment from eligible clients.
Reporting to the Program Manager, the ideal candidate will be responsible to perform a variety of programmatic, administrative, and clerical tasks.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ability to articulate the mission, objectives of the PEACH program, (Promote Earned Income Tax Credit to Support At-Risk Children)
- Answer phones and field all calls, delegate questions and issues to the necessary preparers or management.
- Supporting the outreach team.
- Provide customer follow-up and other general office administrative duties as assigned.
- Schedule appointments for clients
- Assist PEACH clients as needed.
- Assist Program Manager in the reconciliation of management and grant reports on a monthly basis.
- Assist with all database entry and report management.
- Provide team with support obtaining consents and conducting assessments.
- Help create and update client files.
- Provide general support to visitors and act as point of contact for program clients.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
- Graduate level – Public health student
- A minimum of one to two years’ of prior work experience in programmatic, administrative and clerical tasks. Research based knowledge preferred.
- Knowledge of office management systems and procedures.
- Engaging “consumer service” personality and detailed orientated skills are essential.
- Bi-lingual fluency in Spanish preferred.
- Flexible schedule available, must work 18 hours a week. Some Saturdays required.
- Strong oral and written communication, time management and organizational skills are necessary.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology is required.
- CITI certificates required- Human Subject Research and Conflict of Interest
- IRS Volunteer Standard of Conduct Certification required.

Position Description
WorkWell NYC seeks an independent and highly motivated Program Evaluation Intern to provide monitoring and evaluation support for a variety of worksite wellness initiatives that aim to improve the health and well-being of City of New York employees.
The WorkWell NYC Program Evaluation Assistant will support public health program monitoring and evaluation through data entry, tracking program outcomes, and developing systematic reviews for relevant research. The position requires the candidate to work 20 hours per week and will be compensated at a rate of $17/hour. The candidate will begin as soon as possible and commit through December, 2021. Potential to extend the internship will be based on performance.
Responsibilities:
Researching innovative and effective workplace wellness programming in relevant topic areas
- Working with the Program Evaluator to support successful monitoring and evaluation of workplace wellness programs (i.e. physical activity challenges, vaccination clinics, and chronic disease prevention)
- Compiling and summarizing data
- Create and present reports on summarized data for ongoing and completed programs
- Attend staff meetings and other WorkWell NYC meetings as requested by their supervisor

Skills & Qualifications
Have a strong skill set in data entry and management, specifically in Microsoft Excel; proficiency in other statistical software like Stata, R, SPSS is a plus

- Be a highly motivated self-starter who is flexible and able to balance multiple assignments with deadlines
- Have taken at least one course each in program evaluation, statistics, and epidemiology
- Have previous experience with researching and developing systematic reviews

Position Description
Public Health Solutions (PHS) is seeking a summer intern for its Sexual and Reproductive Health Capacity Building (SRH-CB) Program, which sits within the Neighborhood Health Division of PHS. The SRH-CB program leads Quality Improvement (QI) and research projects which aim to improve the quality of sexual and reproductive health services in primary care and behavioral health settings, among others. Completed in 2016, our pilot project support federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) over two years through a Quality Improvement Learning Collaborative (QILC) through which we introduced select evidence-based practices in contraceptive care and facilitated QI work through coaching, training, and technical assistance. After demonstrating significant improvements in contraceptive care, the SRH-CB program published a toolkit and expanded its work into other healthcare settings.
