POSITION: Administrative Intern-Department of Community and Population Health Intern

Job description:

Northwell Health’s Department of Community and Population Health is looking for Master level Public Health or Health Care Administration students who would be interested in completing their internship helping to build and roll-out a Youth Education and Pipeline Program. It will provide valuable experience and skill development in community-based program planning and implementation.

This internship will be 2-3 days per week of remote work, with occasional in person meetings scheduled.

Youth Education and Pipeline Program Description

Building on existing work at Northwell Health that focuses on youth enrichment, we are seeking to establish an evidence-based comprehensive and holistic Youth Education and Pipeline Program that will help vulnerable youth from underserved communities achieve their full potential by providing access to resources that will prepare them to be academically successful, pursue higher education, and ultimately obtain a career in healthcare Providing youth with opportunities and tools to succeed educationally and professionally is a critical building block to creating long-term social and health equity.

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in a Master’s level program majoring in Public Health or Healthcare Administration, required.
  • Strong qualitative and interpersonal skills, required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment/overseeing multiple deliverables simultaneously
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • The following experience is highly desirable, but not required:
  • Work with or for community-based organizations.
  • School/Youth programming.
  • Community-based program development, implementation and evaluation

Position description

The Trust for Governors Island seeks a Community Outreach and Communications Intern for the summer of 2021. Working closely with the Public Affairs team, which oversees communications, marketing, community relations, arts and public programming, the Community Outreach and Communications Intern will support efforts to engage a diverse audience of New Yorkers during the Island’s public season through communications and outreach initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic public place in New York City and learn about community relations, public affairs, placemaking, marketing and communications.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support the Public Affairs team’s efforts in growing relationships with communities and non-profit organizations whose members benefit from access to Governors Island.
  • Community outreach to day camps, school groups, non-profit organizations, social services organizations and NYCHA tenant associations.
  • Support the Public Affairs team in promoting Governors Island as an accessible and dynamic destination, including promoting its park, recreational activities, public programs, art installations and food and beverage operators.
  • Assist with the management of the Trust’s digital communication platforms, including but not limited to e-newsletters and web promotions.
  • Generate content for Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and the Governors Island’s blog.
  • Support staff with needs related to a wide variety of events and special activities and programs.
  • Organization and upkeep of the Trust’s historic and photo archives.
  • Updating and tracking the Island’s physical and digital signage systems and materials.
  • Special projects as needed.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School graduate currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Community College program with a focus on Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Policy, Political Science, Urban Planning or related fields.

Experience:

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively, multi-task, set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Organizational skills to prioritize and accomplish tasks in a timely manner.
  • Experience with copywriting, creative writing and social media.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with InDesign and HTML a plus.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and project management skills, ability to comprehend and coordinate logistics across a range of subject matters.

Movement for Justice in El Barrio (Movement) is an immigrant-led community organization fighting for housing and immigrant justice in East Harlem, New York City. Movement was founded to fight against a voracious trend towards gentrification that is devouring low-income housing and displacing immigrant & low-income families from their homes. Since then, Movement has also been fighting for immigrant justice.

Movement for Justice in El Barrio was named “Best Power to the People Movement in New York City” by the Village Voice.

About the Position

SPG is seeking graduate-level interns for both the summer and fall semester to assist in policy analysis, project management, and research assistance in support of SPG’s clients’ needs. The interns will work with clients where project needs occur, with consideration of the intern’s prior experience and interests. Projects will be dictated by client priorities and may vary from week to week.           

The internship will be a part-time position (full-time for a summer internship) and will include a bi-weekly stipend, with the possibility to become a full-time position when the internship is over.
