Position Description
HPHR Fellows will use their unique communication talents to examine matters of public health and their intersections with the socioeconomic determinants.
Fellowship will start in May 2021 and continue through August 2021.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Submit at least 2 blogs (500-750 words) and/or vlogs (2-10 minutes) twice per month. (More monthly content will be welcome)
- Provide additional blog/vlog layout and editing assistance
- Attend at least one editorial board meeting per month
Skills and Qualifications
Candidates must:
- Have (or be working towards) a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree in public health, a medical degree, or a related feild. (Candidates with different educational backgrounds and/or work experiences will be considered.)
- Demonstrate an ability to produce creative written, graphic, or video content, a willingness to develop their skills, and the capacity to expand their expertise
- Possess a desire to create written works or videos of lasting merit that illuminate critical issues related to public health and catalyze public debate

POSITION: Postdoctoral Research Associate-The Pandemic Journaling Project

Organization Description
The Department of Anthropology and the Human Rights Institute at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position, beginning in late spring 2021, to join the core research team for the Pandemic Journaling Project, an initiative led by researchers at the University of Connecticut and Brown University.
The Department of Anthropology at the University of Connecticut offers undergraduate and graduate training, with internationally recognized strengths in in medical anthropology, human rights, archaeology and biocultural anthropology. Research, teaching, and advocacy in the Department seek to understand the creation and maintenance of social inequities while simultaneously identifying ways to reduce or eliminate them.
The Human Rights Institute (HRI) at UConn is one of the nation’s leading academic centers, offering undergraduate majors and minors in human rights as well as a Graduate Certificate in Human Rights. HRI is globally recognized for its faculty expertise and its role in convening high-level international conferences and symposia, cultivating new modes of human rights practice.

Position Description
The Pandemic Journaling Project is a mixed-methods research project and online journaling platform, founded in May 2020, that aims to document worldwide experiences of the Covid-19 pandemic. Participants complete a demographic survey upon joining, then receive weekly invitations to reflect on their experience of the pandemic (in writing, audio recording, or photos) in response to a brief set of survey questions and narrative prompts. Participants can download their journal securely at any time, and contributions become part of a historical archive. PJP is a collaborative initiative rooted in an ethic of interdisciplinary research collaboration and a commitment to public scholarship. Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to play a lead role in project administration as well as data analysis and the dissemination of findings. Specific responsibilities will include the following: Manage data collection; facilitate regular communication among research team members and collaborators; lead project dissemination and recruitment efforts; manage websites and social media; supervise graduate and undergraduate research assistants; and contribute centrally to the development of presentations and publications for public and scholarly audiences. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will have the opportunity to publish results in collaboration with the PJP team, and also to develop their own research interests and publications using PJP data. We seek candidates with a demonstrated capacity for and commitment to working across disciplines and to engaging substantively in interdisciplinary collaboration.
Skills and Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD in Anthropology, Sociology, or related field within the past five years (completed no later than August 2021).
- A demonstrated capacity to work with qualitative data in a research setting.
- A demonstrated capacity to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, analytic, and communication skills (written and oral).
Preferred Qualifications
- Spanish fluency.
- Ability to work with quantitative as well as qualitative research data.
- Ability to translate research findings for public dissemination.
- Experience with digital ethnography.
- History of obtaining external funding for collaborative, interdisciplinary research.
Additional Information
This is a full-time, 12-month position with an anticipated start date of May 15, 2021. The position may be renewable for a second year, pending funding. The successful candidate’s appointment will be at the main UConn Storrs or one of the regional campuses. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
