POSITION: Research Coordinator II 

ORGANIZATION: Department of Health Education & Behavior at the University of Florida 

Description:

Data collection: Collect and enter data. Data collection typically will occur using in-person interviews, paper questionnaires, computerized behavioral tasks and laboratory alcohol administration sessions. Experience using electronic data collection/management platforms (e.g., REDcap, Qualtrics) preferred.

Participant recruitment: Establish community contacts that facilitate recruitment; post physical and online advertisements; conduct preliminary and formal participant screenings using multiple methods of contact (phone, Zoom, in-person).

Data management & analysis: Track project milestones; perform quality assurance checks; collect, manage, and report metrics of research success including grants, grant dollars, publications; produce descriptive and inferential reports of outcome measures.

Overall project management: Assist in research protocol development; coordinate IRB submissions and human subject payments; assist in preparation of reports and manuscripts; develop and track budgets. Supervise staff and students, to include scheduling, assignments, time reporting, and timely and accurate completion of duties. Work with departmental and college research administration to maintain compliance with federal, state, and university regulations and policies and with university procedures.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience with human research in Psychology, Public Health, or a related field. Experience supervising other employees on a day-to-day basis.

Master’s degree in Psychology, Public Health, or related field; three or more years of relevant experience in human subject research; experience with project coordination, data management, and basic data analysis techniques.

Experience with: research conducted in laboratory and clinical settings; Microsoft Excel and Outlook; IRB submission.

ORGANIZATION: LifeSci NYC Internship Program

While the early deadline for our summer internship program has passed, we now want to emphasize that the final deadline to apply for the summer program is March 31.

I would like to highlight two positions for which we are seeking additional qualified applicants:

  • Goldilocks Therapeutics seeks a part-time Lab Technician. The Tech will work in a two-person lab, and, thus, must be highly experienced and capable of working independently. Students (or recent grads) with a Bachelor’s degree or higher, a strong biology / molecular biology background, and significant experience (via academic research or in industry) in Western blot, mammalian cell culture, and isolating RNA are encouraged to apply without delay.   • The Human Vaccine Project seeks a part-time Business Planning Intern to work remotely. Candidates should be enrolled in or have completed a graduate level program such as MBA, MPA, or MPH, and have significant work experience.

 Below is one role I would like to highlight. This one requires quick action due to a January 29 application deadline:

  • A leading tele-health company seeks a rising senior to be a Summer Engineering Fellow, joining a cross-functional team where they will contribute as a product engineer. The fellow will develop skills in full-stack product engineering, product management, cross-team collaboration, and leadership. Strong technical skills are required, including confidence in Python and/or Javascript (ideally Django and React), as well as relational databases and REST APIs.

POSITION: Research Nutritionist

ORGANIZATION: Robert W. Holley Center for Agriculture and Health on the Cornell University campus in Ithaca, NY

Summary

This position is located in the Plant, Soil and Nutrition Research Unit, Robert W. Holley Center for Agriculture and Health on the Cornell University campus in Ithaca, NY.

Research scientists have open-ended promotion potential. Evaluation of impacts of research accomplishments on positions occurs. Grade level is limited only by individual’s demonstrated ability to perform research of recognized importance to science and technology. *Final grade level may be determined by a peer review panel.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with plant scientists to develop a program focused on how agricultural production of highly-consumed (primarily carotenoid-rich) foods impact human health, with an emphasis on morbidities/predisposing factors associated with MetS.
  • Assesses human nutritional outcomes such as (but not limited to) nutrient bioavailability, the human microbiomes, epigenetic alterations, and/or alteration of clinical parameters.
  • Applies scientific methodologies, data, and theories from relevant fields of agriculture, nutrition, physiology, biochemistry, food science, and other related disciplines using statistical analyses to interpret results.
  • Collaborates with plant scientists and breeder to measure and identify carotenoid composition from carotenoid rich crops to identify linkages between nutritional content and agricultural production.
  • Develops a research program that examines how specific carotenoids and/or carotenoid mixtures found in foods impact mechanistic pathways associated with MetS and associated morbidities.
  • Incumbent tests promising hypotheses developed from in vitro and animal studies in human clinical trials.
  • Collaborates with scientists at a USDA Human Nutrition Research Centers (e.g. Beltsville, MD) and elsewhere the incumbent conducts human studies to evaluate beneficial health outcome of food crops and food products enriched in carotenoids.
  • Establishes strong collaboration with USDA Human Nutrition Research Centers and extramural research funding to conduct both short-term and long-term human trials.

POSITION: Post-Doctoral Fellow

ORGANIZATION: Department of Food Science & Human Nutrition, Illinois College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences

A post-doctoral fellow position is available starting in the summer of 2021 in the laboratory of Dr. Jaume Amengual at the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition – University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. The applicant are sought to work primarily on an NIH-funded research project focused on understanding the role of carotenoids and vitamin A in atherosclerosis and obesity. Successful candidates will conduct research under the supervision of the PI. 

Applicant qualifications: 

  • Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Physiology, Nutrition or related fields within the last 10 years 
  • Experience in conducting research with human subjects and/or animal models is preferred 
  • Self-motivated and hard-working 
  • Well developed skills in basic statistical analysis and scientific writing with evidence of prior productivity

POSITION: Health Program Administrator I

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of experience in the administration of personnel, fiscal, or other related operational activity; OR an Associate’s degree in a related field and five years of such experience; OR seven years of such experience. The Health Program Administrator I provides technical oversight to Division of HIV and HCV Health Care/BHACS contractors; completes assessment of provider performance; negotiates contracts; ensures compliance with program work plans, standards and goals; conducts site visits and program monitoring; reviews monthly/quarterly narrative reports and monthly data reports; reviews and approves continued funding applications, budget modifications and vouchers; prepares narrative and statistical reports; contributes to AI, BHACS and community program planning and development; and performs other appropriate related duties.

Assistant consultant needed for Nancy Goff & Associates, a small health policy consulting firm. We specialize in helping healthcare providers and payers create community health solutions. We work at the intersection of healthcare and public health, supporting innovation and collaboration between diverse partners. 

The ideal candidate for this position will have an interest in health policy (especially health systems transformation), experience running operations for a small business, and willingness to support a diverse range of business functions (see specific duties below). Candidate must be motivated and proactive, highly organized, enjoy researching and applying new technologies, a great communicator, and willing to work independently (from a home office). 

This position would be a good fit for someone who is passionate about health policy and systems change, and is interested in growing into a role with more consulting responsibilities over time. 

Potential duties include:
