POSITION: Postdoctoral fellows in pharmaceutical law and health services research

The Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics at Brigham and Women’s Hospital Department of Medicine and Harvard Medical School invites its 2021 round of applications for postdoctoral fellows in pharmaceutical law and health services research.

Current fellows have studied FDA regulation, patents, drug access and costs, and competition in the therapeutic marketplace. Other areas of focus include intellectual property, ethics, and comparative effectiveness, as well as the development, approval, and evidence-based use of drugs, devices, vaccines, procedures, and diagnostics.

Applications are invited from researchers with doctoral degrees (J.D., M.D., Ph.D., Pharm.D., or equivalent) or who will complete such training by July 2021. Fellows will have an appointment at Harvard Medical School, receive close mentorship from faculty members in the Division, and engage in one or more projects intended to start their careers in law and public health research. Fellowship length will vary depending on the candidate (Minimum: 1 year).

About the PHR Internship Program

Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) takes pride in its strong internship program. Every semester, PHR is fortunate to host a group of academically successful and passionate students who represent the next generation of human rights advocates. Students joining the PHR intern team come from a wide range of academic backgrounds, including public health, international relations, nonprofit management, human rights, humanitarian studies, political science, medicine, and law, among others.

PHR interns perform a range of substantive work, including research, data and video analysis for documentation of human rights violations, fundraising and event planning, and monitoring and reporting on human rights developments around the world. Our program affords students the opportunity to work closely alongside our experts and to contribute to our mission.

Internships at PHR are unpaid. However, students may be able to arrange academic credit and should check with their individual academic institutions for requirements.

POSITION: Intern

ORGANIZATION: Occupational Health Internship Program (OHIP)

Gain Hands-On Experience with Workplace Health and Safety Issues 

Organizational Description

The Occupational Health Internship Program is a national summer program dedicated to helping students learn about the field of occupational health and safety (OHS) from those most at stake: working people. Since 2004, OHIP has played a key role in training, mentoring and inspiring a new generation of OHS professionals to prevent job injury and disease through partnerships with labor and worker organizations. A project of the Association of Occupational and Environmental Clinics, OHIP has training sites across the US. Visit www.OHIPintern.org for 2021 sites. The 13 projects in 2019 included a hazard assessment of Las Vegas casinos, an investigation of sexual harassment and workplace violence in LA cannabis dispensaries, and workplace violence risks for transit workers in Hartford, CT. 2021 projects will be virtual with hopes of becoming hybrid or in-person by the summer.

Position Description

Teams of two students are placed with a union or worker organization to investigate job-related safety and health problems among workers. Projects are designed to maximize interaction between workers and students. OHIP is an applied research experience, where students learn about the OHS field from the workers’ perspective. Projects emphasize worker interviews and worksite evaluations. At the end of the project, teams provide a “give back” product to the workers and their host union/worker organization, present their project at a national NIOSH webconference, and produce a final report. Commitment is full-time, including possible evenings or weekends.

Qualifications

Graduate and undergraduate students can apply; some stipends are restricted to US citizens. Non-US citizens must supply documentation of permission to work in the US. Undergraduates must have completed two years. Recent graduates cannot be out of school for more than six months prior to the start of OHIP (i.e. students are not eligible if they graduated prior to December 2020). We are looking for students with experience or interest in working with unions or social justice organizations, are organized and self-starting, have good team skills and ideally speak a second language. Interns will need to be able to work independently and as a team member, and be comfortable interacting with workers of varied backgrounds and experiences.

POSITION: Postdoctoral Fellow

The Southern HIV and Alcohol Research Consortium (SHARC) at the University of Florida seeks Postdoctoral Fellows interested in translational science research and training focused on reducing the impact of alcohol on HIV infection, behavioral and clinical interventions, and/or neurocognition and brain science.

Fellows are supported by a T32 training grant funded by the NIH National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.

Postdoctoral Fellows will develop an original research program under the guidance of a faculty mentor, participate in research seminars and training experiences, and engage in individual and group mentoring sessions with distinguished faculty mentors including Co-Directors Drs. Established in 2018, The Meyer Cancer Center (MCC) Office of Community Outreach and Engagement (OCOE) at Weill Cornell Medicine focuses on interlacing the tenets of community-engaged research into all four of MCC’s research programs: Cancer Genetics and Epigenetics, Cancer Biology, Experimental Therapeutics, and Cancer Prevention and Control. Community-engaged research leads to the development of research that is responsive to community needs, increases research capacity built through partnerships, and creates the optimal environment for developing high impact translational research from bench to bedside and from bedside to the community. 

The OCOE is seeking an intern to work with us on cancer screening outreach, health education programming, and social media maintenance.

This program is responsive to two identified barriers to the early detection and treatment of cancer: low health literacy and poor social support/ cohesion and utilizes lay health navigators from faith-based and social service organizations in Brooklyn, with the goal to expand to high priority neighborhoods in Manhattan and Queens.
