Sustaining Technical and Analytic Resources (STAR) is a project of the Public Health Institute (PHI) in partnership with the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) and the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), supported by the US Agency for International Development (USAID). STAR is a Global Health talent hub. Through fellowships, internships, and strategic partnerships, STAR supports building the capacity of diverse global health professionals and organizations at all levels to make inclusive, collaborative, and innovative contributions to global health. STAR participants collaborate in the development of systems and tools that strengthen and sustain the local and global health response.

POSITION: A post-doctoral fellowship or developer position
ORGANIZATION: CUNY SPH Institute for Implementation Science and Population Health
A post-doctoral fellowship or developer position is available in the Waldron Lab of Public Health Data Science at the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy and the Institute for Implementation Science in Population Health in New York City. Opportunities are available to be involved in funded projects of the National Cancer Institute and National Human Genome Research Institute in the areas of multi’omic data analysis, human microbiome research, and Cloud computing. These projects utilize publicly available data and open-source software, and allow for independence and creativity in their development.
Our group is diverse, engaged, supportive, and inclusive. Our offices are located in Central Harlem, NYC, but we are well-adapted to remote working arrangements. We are active in software development for R/Bioconductor and in publication.
Requirements include:
- Bachelors degree with two years work experience for a developer position, or a PhD in computer science, statistics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, or related disciplines for a post-doc position.
- experience with software development or analysis in relevant programming languages such as R, C / C++, or Python
Job duties include:
- scientific software development for R/Bioconductor
- preparation of manuscripts and public presentations
- participation in regular lab meetings
- collaboration with other lab members

While we post specific internships, the ISPH is always looking for interns to assist with our projects. These are often master’s or doctoral students, but we welcome applications from anyone who is interested in our work and looking to collaborate. Our interns work closely with ISPH Investigators and staff to obtain practical experience in public health research and other aspects of project management. Past interns have curated content for websites, conducted literature reviews, cleaned data prior to analysis, analyzed data, and developed materials for publication or presentations.

POSITION: Postdoctoral fellows in pharmaceutical law and health services research

The Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics at Brigham and Women’s Hospital Department of Medicine and Harvard Medical School invites its 2021 round of applications for postdoctoral fellows in pharmaceutical law and health services research.
Current fellows have studied FDA regulation, patents, drug access and costs, and competition in the therapeutic marketplace. Other areas of focus include intellectual property, ethics, and comparative effectiveness, as well as the development, approval, and evidence-based use of drugs, devices, vaccines, procedures, and diagnostics.
Applications are invited from researchers with doctoral degrees (J.D., M.D., Ph.D., Pharm.D., or equivalent) or who will complete such training by July 2021. Fellows will have an appointment at Harvard Medical School, receive close mentorship from faculty members in the Division, and engage in one or more projects intended to start their careers in law and public health research. Fellowship length will vary depending on the candidate (Minimum: 1 year).

POSITION: #FirstRespondersFirst Impact and Evaluation Coordinator

#FirstRespondersFirst, an initiative of Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Thrive Global, and the CAA Foundation, takes a whole human approach to addressing the needs of our frontline workers in order to support their ability to serve. Launched on March 23rd 2020, #FirstRespondersFirst provides essential supplies, equipment, accommodations, child care, food, and critical mental health support and resources to ensure that our frontline workforce is protected, well-supported and resilient. #FRF is seeking an Impact and Evaluation Coordinator to evaluate efforts to date, track against benchmarks for success as identified by the #FRF partnership team, and communicate impact in a way that builds awareness about the initiative while attracting strategic partners and engaging new and existing donors.
In this role, you will support the leadership of #FRF through program evaluation and impact reporting while contributing to the strategic planning of the future of the initiative.
Responsibilities include reviewing what #FRF has accomplished since launch, coordinating existing data and testimonials, collecting additional data and testimonials to effectively communicate impact, and providing quarterly impact reports to donors, partners, and #FRF leadership, as well as an annual impact report in March 2021. Qualified candidates will be knowledgeable of program evaluation methods and practice; proficient in analyzing, synthesizing, and presenting data; and will be able to efficiently manage projects and effectively communicate results. Anticipated length of contract is 6 – 12 months, with potential to renew.
Responsibilities include:
- Manage and maintain relationships with #FRF implementing collaborators, ensuring open and effective communication
- Manage, coordinate, and execute the collection of impact data from implementing collaborators, partner organizations, and stakeholders, providing support for timely, accurate, and consistent reporting
- Develop tools and processes that effectively evaluate impact of #FRF services and offerings, specifically for both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis
- Design measurement frameworks that can be used for impact evaluations of #FRF programs
- Engage with implementing collaborators to help them envision and embed creative methods for impact measurement into the solutions they’re delivering
- Establish key benchmarks and timelines to collect data to inform expansion of pilot programs for implementing collaborators
- Undertake media content review (electronic and social media for surveys and personal stories) as well as scientific media review (recent surveys and other reports) to help build deeper understanding of needs of first responders and what types of interventions would be most helpful
- Conduct and produce professional, thorough, rigorous and insightful analyses and evaluative outputs including quarterly and annual impact reports, dashboards of progress and results, and briefing documents about lessons learned
Qualifications
- Experience in research, measurement, and evaluation
- Excellent communication and writing skills, with a keen ability to synthesize and present complex data in a simple, compelling, meaningful way
- Strong analytical and methodological skills
- Ability to facilitate the process of turning impact data into meaningful stories
- Experience in using web-analytics software and survey tools a plus
- Ability to produce beautiful and top-notch data visualization is a plus
- Knowledge of the healthcare workforce preferred
- 2 – 5 years of experience preferred
- MPH, MPP, or related advanced degree preferred
