The Tobacco Research Team at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position focused on substance use (new tobacco products, vaping) among adolescents. The postdoctoral fellow will join an active research and evaluation team working on multiple funded projects for state efforts to address the vaping epidemic.
The selected Fellow will participate in all aspects of research and evaluation including project management, development, implementation, and data analysis. The Fellow will author peer-reviewed publications, reports, and proposals to state and federal funding sources. The position offers ample opportunities for working with data from multiple projects, developing publications, interdisciplinary collaboration, professional networking, teaching, and enhancement of analytic skills. The Fellow will be encouraged to develop their own research agenda related to substance use and to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students. A doctoral degree in a relevant field is required (e.g., social work, criminal justice, psychology, sociology, public health). The ideal candidate will have strong mixed-methods research skills with experience analyzing survey, administrative, and qualitative data. Relevant experience and research interests should be noted in the letter of application. The primary assignment will be at the LMU Tobacco Research Team, under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator, Dr. Roberto Cancio on a Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program for the project entitled, “Youth Vaping in Los Angeles.” This three-year mixed-methods study integrates quantitative spatial data and qualitative interviews from adolescents in order to create geo-narratives.

The CWGCS celebrated 35 years of the Fellowship on Women & Public Policy Program in 2018. The Fellowship offers a $10,000 stipend and tuition assistance for academic coursework. In the spring semester, fellows are full-time graduate students at Rockefeller College with policy-related field placements for thirty hours a week from January through June. Health plans are available.

POSITION: Postdoctoral Fellow
ORGANIZATION: Center on Gender Equity and Health, UC San Diego
The Center on Gender Equity and Health at UC San Diego (geh.ucsd.edu) is searching for a postdoctoral fellow to assist in designing and coordinating three large, multi-year studies on gender-based violence, family planning, and social networks and norms (funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the U.S. CDC) under the direction of Drs. Jay Silverman and Holly Shakya.
The major objectives of these studies are
1) assessment and quantitative analyses of social networks as they relate to changes in family planning use and norms in rural Niger;
2) scaling and evaluation of a clinic-based program to reduce reproductive coercion, IPV, and unintended pregnancy in Kenya in partnership with the Ministry of Health;
3) an evaluation of a community organizing approach to the prevention of sexual violence across the state of California utilizing mixed methods, inclusive of quantitative social media analysis.
Qualifications:
The candidate must have completed a doctorate in public health or related field, possess strong quantitative analysis skills, be conversational in French, have experience coordinating complex projects, and (once the COVID-19 crisis allows) be able to travel internationally, and physically relocate to San Diego (most likely in the first quarter of 2021). The selected postdoctoral fellow will be reviewed annually, with the duration of the appointment being up to three years.

POSITION: Graduate Research Assistantship – PT

The Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) will support the Principal Investigator (PI) in fulfilling duties related to successful completion of assigned project deliverables. The GRA will work mostly remote and aid in collecting research data from participants in the form of 1-on-1 interviews. Supporting the goals of the project, the GRA will assist in data analysis that includes; transcription and input, database maintenance, and preparation of reports. This is a part-time term position that is funded through December 2020.
Duties and Responsibilities
