On December 19, Sitaji Gurung, a PhD student in the Community Health and Health Policy track, successfully defended her dissertation, “Leveraging electronic health records to develop cardiovascular risk profiles for primary prevention with youth living with HIV in multidisciplinary adolescent HIV care settings.” Her committee was chaired by Dr. Christian Grov, with Dr. Terry Huang, Dr. Jonathon Rendina, and Dr. Kit N. Simpson serving as committee members.
“This SPH experience has provided me with the strength to continue with my passion and move forward confidently in the direction of my dreams,” says Dr. Gurung. “My Committee Chair and members have been incredibly supportive during this experience. With their areas of expertise on HIV, cardiovascular health, and electronic health records, I received critical feedback on the content and methodology which helped me to shape the dissertation both at an early stage as well as to improve the final product. I chose the three-paper route to dissertation, and I am happy that all three papers have been accepted for a conference presentation. Because of their quick response on every round of revision, I managed to complete the program seamlessly and earlier than the expected timeline.”
Dr. Gurung will continue her research on the intersection of HIV and cardiovascular health, and hopes to return to teaching after graduating in June.
