The CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy (CUNY SPH) Foundation is pleased to announce two new appointees to its Board of Directors: Ken Shubin Stein and Gil Addo.
Dr. Shubin Stein is the founder and chairman of Spencer Capital Management, a New York-based hedge fund with a scientific, value-based investment approach. Prior to Spencer Capital, he managed Kenshu, LLC while also working as a portfolio manager for Promethean Investment Group, LLC. He joined Promethean after completing his internship in orthopedic medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. He lends his expertise as an adjunct professor at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business, where he has taught the Advanced Investment Research Course at Columbia’s Heilbrunn Center for Graham & Dodd Investing since 2009.
Dr. Shubin Stein has committed to charitable endeavors addressing a wide range of public health issues, including child mobility and concussion. He is the co-founder of Crutches 4 Kids, a nonprofit organization that provides crutches and other mobility devices to children in need, and the co-founder of the International Concussion Society. He is a graduate of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he completed a five-year medical and research program with a focus on molecular genetics. He holds a BA in premedical studies and political science from Columbia University and a MPH and MS in epidemiology from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.
Gil Addo is the CEO and co-founder of RubiconMD, a digital health platform that allows primary care providers to access same-day virtual consultations with top medical specialists to improve patient care. He drives RubiconMD’s vision and strategy through his passion to improve access to quality medical expertise. Formerly a consultant at Putnam Associates, a pharmaceutical strategy consultancy, Addo designed payer and market access strategies for Fortune 500 companies. He previously held strategy and business development roles at Cubist (acquired by Merck), Xerox, and two early-stage healthcare ventures. Addo holds a BS in economics and biomedical engineering from Yale University and an MBA from Harvard University. He has appeared in Inc, Forbes, CNBC, and Fortune. Addo been named one of Forbes’ “30 Under 30” in healthcare and MedTech Boston’s 40 Under 40. In 2017, Crain’s New Yorknamed Addo as their Heritage Healthcare Innovator of the Year.
“We are thrilled to welcome these two dynamic innovators to our board,” said CUNY SPH Dean Ayman El-Mohandes. “Their experience and achievements in the global public health arena make them ideal additions to our Foundation Board of Directors.”
We are also delighted to announce that Board Member Alfonso Chang has accepted the role of vice chair and Board Member Margaret Crotty has accepted the role of secretary. Both will serve two-year terms in their respective leadership positions.
