Brightspace 2025

Starting in Summer 2025, SPH courses will be taught using the Brightspace platform. We are using this site to keep the SPH community informed about the project and to provide a central repository for Brightspace resources for faculty, staff, and students.

Timeline:

All SPH courses will be taught on Brightspace starting in Summer 2025. CUNY’s overall timeline can be found on the CUNY Brightspace website. A SPH-specific timeline is below. Details will be added as we receive additional information from CUNY.

Spring 2025

All courses are taught in Blackboard.
Instructors gain access to the Brightspace environment (pending CUNY)
Course migrations from Blackboard to Brightspace begins (done by CUNY)
CUNY-led training Brightspace training for instructors begins.
SPH-led trainings to supplement CUNY-led training begin.
All instructors to prepare course sites teaching in the summer 2025 semester
Students are provided with self-paced training resources.
Student gain access to Brightspace (pending CUNY)

Summer 2025

All courses are taught in Brightspace.
Instructors begin to personalize and access fall courses in Brightspace.
SPH-led course development support sessions begin throughout summer
SPH-led trainings to supplement CUNY-led training begin.
Instructors continue to have access to old courses in Blackboard, but no new courses are created.

Fall 2025

All courses are taught in Brightspace.
Student training continues.
Instructor and staff training and course development continues.
Instructors continue to have access to old courses in Blackboard, but no new courses are created.
Blackboard LMS becomes unavailable permanently on December 18, 2025 – after which there will be no access after this date.

- There is a Getting Started in Brightspace Checklist
- Training sessions will be ongoing throughout the spring 2025 semester; faculty can attend for live support
