This forum will address the policy dimensions of using institutional food procurement — or the food purchased with public dollars through government agencies and government-funded institutions — to advance racial equity. What are some of the different policy options and implementation strategies to achieve greater racial equity in the food system by leveraging the “public plate”? What are some success stories? Are there any potential shortcomings of existing solutions to addressing racial disparities through public food procurement? How can institutions tackle the broader, systemic issues that may hamper food procurement policy and program implementation centering racial equity values? On September 29th, please join us and invited guest speakers to explore these topics.
