CUNY SPH and Public Health Solutions invite you to join the Public Health Under Pressure inaugural panel.

In a time of rapid change, how can public health move forward? In the face of looming healthcare cuts, massive reductions in federal healthcare funding, increased numbers of uninsured individuals, and reduced access to public health services and social safety nets, this event will convene public health leaders, educators, and government representatives for a timely conversation and Q&A.

Speaker Bios:

Dr. Dave A. Chokshi, MD, MSc, is a physician and public health leader who currently serves as Founding Director of the Health & Opportunity Leadership Institute at The City College of New York and as a Senior Scholar at CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy. He previously served as the 43rd Health Commissioner of New York City, leading the city’s COVID-19 response and vaccination of more than six million residents. Dr. Chokshi continues to practice internal medicine at Bellevue Hospital.

Marquis A. Harrison is Chairperson of Manhattan Community Board 10 and a longtime advocate for Harlem’s youth and residents. Elected Chair in 2023, he has advanced a leadership vision centered on transparency, accountability, and equity. His work has been recognized citywide, including being named a 2024 BRIDGES NY Fellow and a 2025 City & State “40 Under 40” honoree. Alongside his community leadership, he serves with the United Federation of Teachers and as Chair of Education for the NAACP New York Branch.

Cassaundra Howell is President and CEO of Public Health Solutions and a seasoned executive with more than 22 years of experience leading complex organizations. Her background spans strategic planning, financial management, human resources, and large-scale organizational change. She holds degrees from New York University and Pace University.

Veronica Smith is Senior Director of Health Policy and Government Affairs at Public Health Solutions, with over a decade of experience in policy, advocacy, and community engagement. She has held senior roles in consulting and government, focusing on building partnerships that advance equitable investment and public policy outcomes.
