Dean’s Grand Rounds
Healthcare in Afghanistan: An unfolding humanitarian crisis
About the lecture:
In September 2021, CUNY SPH’s Center for Immigrant, Refugee and Global Health (CIRGH) hosted a panel discussion that examined the political, social, and health care impacts of the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan. In this Grand Rounds lecture, Dr. Paul Spiegel, Director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Humanitarian Health and Professor of the Practice in the Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, will report on his month-long mission to Afghanistan, during which he experienced the dire health care situation first-hand. Dr. Spiegel will examine the underlying causes of this crisis and what can and should be done to respond.
