As part of a partnership between CUNY SPH and the University of Alcalá in Madrid, Spain, we are thrilled to announce we are now accepting applications for the Semester Study Abroad Fellowship for the fall 2025 term. The fellowship is open to second year master’s students in the Epidemiology and Biostatistics track, who have completed both Epi Methods I (EPID 620) and Applied Bios I (BIOS 620) courses.

This fellowship offers students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a new culture and expand their academic perspectives in Madrid, Spain while acquiring invaluable skills that will serve them well in their future public health careers.

Courses completed at the University of Alcalá (UAH) will satisfy requirements of the CUNY SPH master’s program in Epi-Bios, and students will receive a certificate from UAH.

The application is now open and Epi-Bios track master’s students are invited to apply by March 27, 2025!

Fellowship Highlights

  • Destination: University of Alcalá, Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, Spain
  • Duration: One academic semester
  • Funding: The fellowship covers tuition fees and accommodations in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, Spain
  • Academic Credit: Earn up to 12 credits towards your degree while studying abroad.

Who is eligible for the fellowship?

    • CUNY SPH master’s students in the Epidemiology & Biostatistics track.
    • Applicants must be a second-year, full-time master’s student in good academic standing.
    • Applicants must demonstrate a strong interest in international studies and cultural exchanges.
    • Applicants not selected for the fellowship are still eligible to participate in the semester abroad program, but will be required to cover the cost of tuition and accommodations.

Application Process

  • Complete the application form available online at this link.
  • Submit the following supporting documents:
    • Personal Statement – Please address why you are applying for the fellowship and what you hope to gain from the experience. Statement should be no more than 500 words.
    • Academic Transcript – Please submit a transcript that includes your most recent semester completed.
  • Selected candidates will be invited to an interview with the selection committee.

Important Dates

  • Application Deadline: March 27, 2025
  • Notification of Acceptance: April 8, 2025
  • Program Start Date: September 8, 2025
