Stripped Down — A commentary on the proposed banning of a paint stripping solvent

has published a commentary on the proposed banning of the solvent methylene chloride for paint stripping in the January issue of the Synergist, a publication of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA).

As part of recent (pre-Trump Administration) bipartisan legislation known as the Toxic Substances Control Act, the EPA was tasked to set rules for 10 chemicals this year, another 10 next year, and so on. Use of methylene chloride to strip bathtub coatings, which has caused 13 known fatalities since 2010, may be affected by those rules.
