POSITION: Public Health Program Associate

Our Public Health team is seeking a proactive, detail oriented and knowledgeable coordinator to support two programs: (1) Cardiovascular Health and (2) the Global Ambassador portfolio which supports Mike Bloomberg’s role as WHO Global Ambassador for Noncommunicable Diseases and Injuries, which includes the 70-city network, Partnership for Health Cities.  

This role will be based full time in New York City.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Serve as coordinating liaison to Global Ambassador and Cardiovascular Health Program Partners to ensure consistent reporting and communications, both within the Foundation and with external partners.
  • Provide critical reviews of monthly, quarterly, and annual partner reports, coordinating feedback, and synthesizing information for internal reporting; Monitor and follow up with partners on any unexpected report items or deviation from expected deliverables
  • Assist in coordinating meetings with partners and other external stakeholders
  • Assist in providing strategic support to governments, partners and local staff working in low- and middle-income countries to reduce noncommunicable diseases and injuries
  • Creation of presentations, including innovative data visualization opportunities for information generated for our public health programs; prepare spreadsheets to track work.
  • Research and prepare briefings, memos, presentation materials, reports and analysis for partner interactions, board meetings, internal and external stakeholder meetings

You’ll need to have:

  • Masters degree in epidemiology, public health or related field
  • At least 4 years’ of work experience in the field of public health, preferably in a global context
  • Commitment, coupled with hands-on experiences, working in support of our Public Health team’s programs and values.
  • Track record of reviewing public health data and analysis, crafting data driven reports, memos and presentations; with a sharp eye for accuracy and detail and that can be interpreted by a wide audience, including non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in working within partnerships and in diverse settings
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills showcasing a capacity to synthesize information and develop compelling narratives

Job Description

The WorkWell NYC Program Director reports to the Assistant Commissioner of Workforce Engagement and Innovation and is responsible for the overall expansion and utilization of wellness programs at City of New York worksites to create workplaces that engage and empower employees to live healthy, active lifestyles, and to provide health and well-being services, programs, and resources. Under administrative direction, with the widest latitude for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative performs tasks such as the following:

  1. Develops the strategic direction, staffing and budgetary priorities for WorkWell NYC
  2. Provides leadership and direction to WorkWell NYC staff for planning, conducting, and coordinating city-wide and agency specific initiatives

  1. Experience designing and implementing organizational employee health and wellness initiatives
  2. Knowledge of organizational change and behavior modification
  3. Experience developing systems and tools to effectively evaluate performance and then to utilize knowledge to enhance organizational performance
  4. Experience in municipal government and labor relations a plus

POSITION: Senior Principal Environmental Engineer, JFK Redevelopment (Job ID: 41448)

Responsibilities: The Senior Principal Environmental Engineer will manage all environmental compliance and regulatory issues to support the implementation of the JFK Redevelopment Program.  The individual will be responsible for providing expert advice related to compliance with environmental regulations in support of the Program development and provide technical support to the Law Department and Line Department for the development of property transaction documents.  The individual will negotiate compliance requirements with senior representatives from State and Federal Environmental Agencies.  The successful candidate shall have comprehensive knowledge of environmental compliance requirements related to aviation operations, soil and groundwater remediation of petroleum contamination, contaminated soil reuse, asbestos and lead abatement, waste disposal and operational and construction environmental permit requirements for airports including, stormwater discharge, fuel storage and protection of environmental resources.

Minimum Qualifications – Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Requires 10 years of experience in the Environmental Engineering field related to the responsibilities outlined above, including supervisory and technical experience managing large construction programs for environmental compliance.
  •       Comprehensive knowledge of New York State Department of Environmental Conservation regulations and region 3 personnel and New York State Department of Labor Code Rule 56 requirements for asbestos abatement.

Position Overview

The Academic Counselor (AC) provides one-on-one academic counseling support to mentees who are co-enrolled in the Academic Support and Uplift Mentor programs. They work actively with students to promote their academic success, with a broad understanding of their social, economic and cultural contexts and general needs. The AC’s hybrid role will help drive the integration of CCF’s academic service programs and will be collaborating with the development of necessary infrastructures needed for effective collaboration across teams as well as streamlining participants’ support. 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  •  Provide academic counseling, financial aid counseling, and referral counseling to students.
  •  On a semester-basis, meet with caseload of students to provide 1-on-1 support throughout each step of the higher education process, from college exploration to graduation.
  •  Establish and maintain contacts and interfaces as needed with support staff from various college offices and partner organizations to support student needs.
  •  Collaborate with staff to develop special student service/information activities, e.g., career day, health awareness, etc.
  •  Coordinate with the team to assure financial support disbursement for student caseload including scholarships, emergency funds, transportation, books, school supplies, and tutoring.
  •  Stay informed on the public higher education landscape on the local, state and federal levels.
  •  Provide ongoing support to mentors and mentees throughout their engagement with CCF, from recruitment, screening, to onboarding and matching, to ongoing support including monthly 1-on-1 check-ins, as well as ongoing responsiveness to participant questions and concerns.
  •  Review and conduct quality assurance for reflection logs and reach out to mentors/mentees who need assistance.
  •  Support Uplift Mentor Consultant with monthly group mentoring sessions that promote relationship development and support mentee goal development and achievement. 
  •  Coordinate participant attendance, participant follow-up of specific needs/referrals, and student evaluations.
  •  Utilize Mentee Individual Development Plans (IDP) and weekly Salesforce reports including data submitted by mentors, mentees, and staff, to guide your support; ensure match quality; and monitor interaction and reporting requirements. 
  •  Collect and maintain effective reporting requirements, including but not limited to 

documentation of student engagement and performance; workshop data and attendance and other relevant mentor/mentee data in Salesforce.

  •  Participate in technical staff training.
  •  On occasion performs the work of another specialty position when necessary.
  •  Other duties as assigned by supervisor. 

Competencies/Qualifications: 

  •  A Bachelors’ Degree in counseling or a directly related field of study from an accredited institution, and appropriate certification of specialization.
  •  No fewer than three (3) years experience of related work and possession of the core competencies determined to be required at the time of hire. Individuals who have not yet achieved a bachelor’s degree will be considered based on experience. 
  •  Familiarity with the criminal legal system or working with justice-impacted individuals highly appreciated.
  •  Working knowledge of an information, learning, counseling or coaching specialty as evidenced by study, training, or certifications; and by prior instructional, counseling, or technical experience.

POSITION: Health Informatics Specialist

ORGANIZATION: CDC Foundation

The CDC Foundation seeks a full-time health informatics specialist. This staff person will support the implementation of a project to develop a comprehensive performance monitoring measures toolkit to be used in the evaluation of overdose prevention activities by the CDC as well as state and local health departments. The three-year initiative aims to develop digital-first, evidence-based resources to support the mobilization of the measurement of key overdose prevention strategies across the US. The position is a specialist role that will use data analytics to develop and test the feasibility of key performance metrics (or indicators), as well as use their knowledge, experience, and qualitative data methods to understand the capacity of health departments and their data systems to collect and report on the selected performance measures. 

The project is conducted in collaboration with the donors, partner agencies and other internal and external teams. The health informatics specialist combines strong technical and analytical skills, with experience in understanding data systems among health departments. The ideal candidate will be able to provide expertise in data governance and accessibility considerations salient to state and local health departments, while also accounting for available data sources that can be used and the capacity of jurisdictions to report on specific metrics. Critical to the successful use of performance measures, the health informatics specialist also will address data quality and data suppression requirements for performance measures to be included in the toolkit. The health informatics specialist also will be able to utilize evidenced-based methodologies for combining and cleaning data collected in health department settings to create more powerful integrated data products. The health informatics specialist will address data preparation and data dissemination needs, with consideration of different platforms through which performance indicators might be reported. The health informatics specialist will work closely with the project team to develop and recommend innovative data visualization techniques, conduct exploratory and applied analytic strategies, devise and test hypotheses, program coding algorithms (e.g. SAS, R), and develop data prediction models to test performance indicators. 

This is an outstanding opportunity to work in collaboration with the nation’s lead agency charged with protecting the public’s health. This is a CDC Foundation position that will work directly with CDC and be placed at a CDC location with remote options. 

Qualifications and Necessary Skills

  1.   Master’s degree in computer sciences, health informatics, public health, health administration, or related field. 
  2.   Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in health informatics or data analysis preferably in healthcare, public health, and/or government agencies at the local, state, or national level.
  3.   Five years of experience in public health program areas of immunization, surveillance, vital records or direct services, and/or working with Electronic Health Record systems, and/or health data standards or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  4.   Specialized knowledge and experience in quantitative and inferential statistical methods including multivariate modeling.
  5.   Experience with data standards and coding (e.g., HL7, LOINCSNOMED-CT, ICD-10-CM).
  6.   Experience with data analytic software tools such as SAS, SQL, or R; and data visualization software such as Power BI and Tableau. 
  7.   Advanced proficiency in health information system design and data systems management for integration.

POSITION: Maternal Health Equity Advocate

Member Position Summary:

Each year in New York City, approximately 30 women die due to pregnancy-related causes and another 2,500-3,000 women suffer a life-threatening complication in childbirth. Black and Latina women in New York City is at disproportionate risk for death and complications related to their pregnancies and births compared to White women. This position will focus on increasing the knowledge and empower NYCHA residents about their rights for dignified and respectful care. 

Provide data about the maternal health crisis by conducting workshops and individual education sessions. Represent NYCHA complex during DOHMH led community-clinical convening focused on quality improvement efforts to reduce severe maternal morbidity for Black and Latina birth people/women in NYC. Detailed Tasks: 

  • Conduct workshops/education sessions to NYCHA residents about the maternal health crisis in NYC using tools provided by NYC DOHMH 
  • Serve as a liaison between NYC DOHMH and NYCHA 
  • Attend NYCHA ‘Talking Circle Support Group’ with Tenant Resident Association and Tenant Association and identify any maternal health needs/issues
  • Work in collaboration with other NYCHA Health Corp Birth Justice Advocates on addressing maternal health issues for NYCHA residents 
  • Recruit NYCHA residents to become Birth Justice Defenders in their borough 
  • Identify ways to sustain the work after the completion of the NYCHA Health Corps program 
  • Work with other NYCHA initiatives that support families and children
  • Assist with understanding the impact and identify ways to improve the work of the Birth Justice Advocate role in NYCHA 
  • Support DOHMH with the development of public awareness campaigns focused on maternal health.

The NYC Health Department, Bureau of Hepatitis, HIV, and STI (BHHS) Viral Hepatitis Program (VHP) works to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with hepatitis B and C in New York City.  The VHP conducts surveillance, and develops and implements programs and projects to prevent, manage and treat hepatitis B and C.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Viral Hepatitis Program is recruiting a Projects Coordinator who will collaborate with the Communications and Community Engagement Programs Manager and external community providers to coordinate Hep Free NYC coalition activities, develop, and implement health promotion/communications projects. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop health communication projects to meet community needs, Projects include printed materials, social media content, website content and other materials as needed.
  • Organize community stakeholders and work with organization leadership to enhance communications and coalition building capacity.
  • Implement and evaluate communications and community engagement project and develop reports and presentation on process and outcomes.
  • Maintain coalition project databases, websites, and social media platforms.
  • Coordinate community meetings with DOHMH and community stakeholders.

This position is located in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Research and Development (ORD) in the Center for Environmental Solutions and Emergency Response (CESER). CESER provides research-based solutions and technical support to assist customers with regulatory, policy, and guidance decisions and to help customers solve environmental problems in the built environment. 

This position will serve as the ORD Lead for the new Community-Engaged Research Collaborative for Learning and Excellence (CERCLE), located at EPA’s Edison Environmental Center (EEC) in Edison, New Jersey. ORD and EPA’s Region 2 are co-developing CERCLE at the EEC. The vision for the CERCLE is to create a community-focused research center that incorporates local, underrepresented, or underserved communities into all stages of the scientific and research process to co-produce actionable and sustainable solutions that increase and maintain community resilience to environmental issues. ORD’s applied, collaborative, and community-engaged research at the CERCLE will serve as a model and resource for addressing community challenges nationwide, including environmental justice, climate, adaptation, and community resilience.

Specific duties of the position include:

  • As the ORD ORD Lead of the CERCLE, building and maintaining the capability of the CERCLE to host ORD community-engaged environmental research, bringing together community needs and ORD research priorities.
  • Coordinating with Agency, state, local and tribal partners to engage with local communities and maintain scientific rigor with local and national impact.
  • Provide high-level substantive advice and recommendations to the CESER Director and Deputy Director, as well as senior officials in ORD, advising on tools and approaches required to generate rapid and scientifically defensible social science methods.
