POSITION: Data Collection Intern (Unpaid)
ORGANIZATION: GMHC
GMHC is a not-for-profit, data-driven, volunteer-supported, and community-based organization committed to national leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS. We provide HIV prevention and coordinated care services to people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS in New York City.
The GMHC Analytics and Evaluation Department at GMHC is seeking two interns who would aid in the creation, administration, and tracking of agency-wide surveys. The intern will help create surveys and help ensure good content, and aesthetics of surveys. The intern will also administer surveys over the phone 95%+ of the time. The intern may need to administer surveys in-person, as needed. Finally, the intern will data enter surveys into electronic survey forms and maintain tracking sheets.
TIME COMMITMENT
- School Semester
- 3 days per week, and 15 hours per week, minimum
EDUCATION
The intern should be a Junior or Senior undergraduate with a demonstrated interest in public
health or a graduate student in public health, health sciences, or social sciences.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
In addition to the above-listed internship responsibilities and educational requirements, the ideal candidate for this internship possesses most or all of the following:
- Required: Type a minimum of 40wpm
- Preferred but not required: Fluent in Spanish
- Preferred but not required: Microsoft Forms/Google Forms/SurveyMonkey Experience
- Experience working cooperatively as part of a Team
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Attention to detail
- Culturally sensitive
- The intern must exhibit a non-judgmental affect when interacting with clients
This is an unpaid internship. We will work with students on what their goals are for the internship and can help a student to obtain academic credit for the internship.
Remote Work:
This position will be a hybrid position. The intern will primarily work remotely but may need to occasionally report to the office. The intern must have access to a computer with high-speed internet, and earphones or headphones to maintain privacy and confidentiality.

Internship Summary:
The Training and Outreach Intern is essential to the efficient and effective delivery of the educational and training programmatic efforts of HES. Under the supervision of the Director of Training and Outreach, this individual will have responsibility for assisting with coordinating general programming efforts of HES in addition to data analysis, and assessment creation and dissemination. The successful candidate will have a proven record of program delivery and coordination, will be a skilled facilitator, and have a passion for and commitment to anti-racist teaching and racial equity.
Duties/Responsibilities
Core Responsibility: Curriculum development, planning, implementation, and coordination
- Assist in the planning and execution of our educational and training programs
- Assist in researching, designing, and implementing programs that support health equity and advocacy in an effort to inform HES programming
- Assist with tech needs for workshop/trainings
- Facilitate development of learning/training programs and events
- Research, investigate, and analyze available resources and websites to help enhance programs
- Network with other organizations to share information and to gain knowledge that would help improve HES efforts
- Design digital and print promotional material
- Curate and participate in community outreach events
Core Responsibility: Program support and co-creation and operational assistance
- Work collaboratively with the Director and Manager of Training and Outreach to identify subject matter experts for HES efforts and programs
- Demonstrate awareness of and support for program goals and objectives
- Collect, analyze, and disseminate key evaluative and demographic data on educational programs to internal stakeholders
Core Responsibility: Communications
- Responsible for communication coordination, including but not limited to regular communication to stakeholders and posting of online content in various social media outlets; coordination of and promotion of HES efforts and programs to increase participation and engagement; and develop marketing materials targeting potential participants, speakers, and sponsors
- Develop programming and event specific materials
Job Specifications
- Education: Working towards a degree in public policy, public health, or other social sciences preferred
- Experience: Significant knowledge of educational program design, implementation, and delivery required; understanding of public policy and advocacy required; 1-2 years of relevant professional experience preferred; knowledge of and passion for health equity preferred
- Skills: Program design and implementation; communications and marketing related to advocacy efforts; policy analysis/policy communications; effective skills as a group facilitator; problem solving; interpersonal, computer, verbal and written communication skills; time management; excellent organizational skills necessary; successful grant writing experience a plus
- Other: Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Internet Applications; SocialMedia platforms
- Characteristics: Individual self-starter; work well as part of a team, works well in a fast-paced environment

POSITION: Pacific Public Health Fellowship Program
ORGANIZATION: Collaboration between U.S. Affiliated Pacific Islands’ health departments, the Pacific Island Health Officers’ Association, and the CDC
The Pacific Public Health Fellowship Program (PPHFP) is a two-year professional development program that provides promising career-minded individuals with robust and practical hands-on learning experiences and training for a variety of public health career pathways. The program offers a wide array of opportunities to learn from and work directly with highly experienced and seasoned frontline public and community health professionals in the US Affiliated Pacific Islands (USAPIs). The goal is to prepare participants for a successful career in organizations that focus on public and community health in the USAPIs.
The program is specifically designed to prepare new college graduates and early career professionals to meet emerging and future public health challenges in the Pacific, and to expose individuals to innovations in public health practice, health advocacy, leadership, and policy.
The PPHFP is a collaborative effort between the USAPIs’ departments/ministries of health, the Pacific Island Health Officers’ Association (PIHOA), and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
