POSITION: Cancer Prevention and Control (CAPAC) Research Training Program

Program Overview:Research being performed in Puerto Rico provides an opportunity to advance knowledge of cancer risk, and cancer prevention and control among Hispanic and non-Hispanic populations in the United States (US).
The Cancer Prevention and Control (CAPAC) Research Training Program at the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences of the University of Puerto Rico Comprehensive Cancer Center (UPRCCC) aims to increase the pool of master’s degree graduates and other health professionals to pursue a doctoral degree and/or a career in cancer prevention and control research with a focus on Hispanic health and health disparities. The long-term goal of this Program is to contribute to the development of the next generation of successful cancer control researchers with a cultural sensitivity to the Hispanic population.
The program will recruit participants from all racial/ethnic groups and cultural backgrounds to participate in a hands-on research experience in a Hispanic population and cultural environment. Participants will be matched to a mentor based on their research interest in basic, clinical, and population-based research.
Overall, 25 participants will be recruited every year to the program. This 10-week full-time research experience will be scheduled for every summer; activities will include their participation in a research project and complementary educational and professional skill building activities. Upon application and evaluation of the request, the program will support a maximum of 10 participants to extend their research experience for up to 15 weeks. The official languages of the program will be English and Spanish.
Program Requirements:
- Master level graduate students (from public health or biomedical sciences programs),* Health professional students (i.e. Medicine [MD], Dental Medicine [DMD], Pharmacy [Msc or PharmD], Nursing [MSN or DNP], etc.),* OR persons that have recently graduated from any of these programs (within the past 12 months).
- ≥ 2.8 grade point average
- Two letters of recommendation
- Research experience
- Excellent written and communication skills in English
- Basic knowledge of Spanish language is highly recommended
- US citizen or US legal resident

Overview:
The Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) is seeking a temporary intern from January 2022 to assist and support the Quality Advocacy, Research and Innovation (QARI) division. This opportunity is ideal for a graduate student seeking an internship in healthcare quality improvement, focused on health and aging in New York State. This position requires working with confidential data and adhering to HANYS’ data security policies and procedures. Key Responsibilities:
Gather, code, and verify data and ensure timely submission for New York State healthcare facilities participating in the Age-Friendly Health Systems Action Community. Coordinate the design of a pre- and post-participation survey to capture process and outcome metrics and measure improvement.
Identify and summarize trends and share updates with participating healthcare facilities to highlight progress and opportunities for improvement.
Qualifications:

POSITION: Postdoctoral Fellowship Opportunities in Mental Health Implementation Science

Key responsibilities:
- Support management of large clinical community trials of mental health task-sharing
- Work with PI and investigators to assist with training, supervision, implementation of learning collaborative to support scale up of mental health/psychosocial support interventions
- Work with PI and lead trainers to develop intervention materials (manuals, tools, curriculum, mental health promotion toolkits, implementation guides, etc.)
- Develop and support community collaborative network
- Support continuous quality improvement / learning collaboratives
- Work with research team on data collection of implementation and outcome data across sites
- Lead analysis of longitudinal data in mental health services research
- Engage in high-level research and publishing on projects regarding ongoing work related to the depression care projects and task-shifting research globally and locally.
Key requirements:
- PhD in field related to Clinical/Counseling Psychology, Public Health, Implementation Science, Social Work, and/or Mental Health with strong background in implementation science to include hybrid design, cluster randomized control trials, longitudinal studies, and quality improvement approaches
- Experience conducting research in culturally diverse contexts
- Experience implementing mental health evidence-based interventions (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Problem Solving Therapy, Behavior Activation, Interpersonal Therapy, etc.)
- Experience with community-based participatory research
- Publication record that demonstrates candidate’s capacities, proficiency with advanced statistical and computational programming preferred
- Statistical capabilities: Demonstrated ability to analyze data from cluster randomized trials, work with missing data, conduct multilevel modeling, oversee technology-based data collection and data monitoring, and utilize mixed methodologies to triangulate qualitative and quantitative data
- Experience with mental health technological tools (applications, websites, SMS interventions)are preferred. There will be opportunities to develop further in this area.
- Language skills (Vietnamese, Chinese, Spanish) are preferred
- For BRY, experience working with youth and families is needed
The current stipend for a first year fellow is commensurate with the standard National Institutes of Health rate and is eligible for benefits. A travel stipend will be provided for necessary travel, including conferences and trainings. Several positions are open.

POSITION: The Mayor’s Office Internship Program

The mission of the Mayor’s Office Internship Program is to build a diverse pipeline of future public service leaders. This highly selective group of professionals collaborate with staff to better the Office of the Mayor and New York City.
The Mayor’s Office Internship Program is comprised of three major components:
Work Assignment:
Interns apply to the department that interests them most, and, if selected, will work within that department for the duration of their internship. In their positions, interns will have the chance to collaborate with staff and work on a range of projects. These projects may include conducting research, attending meetings, managing incoming inquiries, analyzing data, drafting briefings, staffing events, assisting with outreach, and supporting special projects.
Government Engagement:
Through the bi-weekly Speaker Series, interns will learn more about the inner-workings of City government. These talks are held at historic City Hall, and guest speakers include Deputy Mayors, Commissioners, Program Directors and other senior staff. Interns will also have the opportunity to tour various Mayors’ Office facilities across our city.
Service Project:
In collaboration with NYC Service, the Mayor’s Office division focused on volunteerism and service in New York City, interns will come together to develop a service project. The goal is to design and execute a project that will impact our most deserving communities and uplift New Yorkers in need. Previous projects have included Little League Ball Field Restoration, NYC Parks clean-up, Tree planting and Beach clean-up

POSITION: Prevention Effectiveness Fellowship

The Prevention Effectiveness Fellowship is a 2-year, highly-selective research fellowship for recent doctoral graduates with a background in economics, policy analysis, operations research, decision sciences, and other quantitative areas.
The CDC Steven M. Teutsch Prevention Effectiveness (PE) Fellowship fills a critical need to demonstrate the value of prevention. The PE Fellowship builds CDC’s capacity to assess the effectiveness and value of public health interventions and evidence-based decision-making. The goal of this fellowship is to ensure there are well-trained health economists with expertise in policy analysis and skills to consider economic issues in public health programs. For more than 20 years, CDC has recruited and trained highly effective health economists through the PE Fellowship, the largest 2-year postdoctoral training program of its kind in the United States.
Beginning in 2021, the PE Fellowship began offering the Public Health Analytics and Modeling Track as an option within the fellowship. The goal of this track is to grow CDC’s capabilities around advanced analytics and infectious disease modeling.
While most of the learning occurs in the field, the PE Fellowship sponsors a core set of didactic trainings that focus on five competency domains:
- Analysis and assessment
- Foundations for leadership
- Interpersonal and professional communication skills
- Policy analysis
- Public health science and practice
A core value of prevention effectiveness involves considering economic issues when evaluating public health policy. The Southern HIV and Alcohol Research Consortium (SHARC) at the University of Florida seeks Postdoctoral Fellows interested in translational science research and training focused on reducing the impact of alcohol on HIV infection, behavioral and clinical interventions, and/or neurocognition and brain science.
Fellows are supported by a T32 training grant funded by the NIH National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
Postdoctoral Fellows will develop an original research program under the guidance of a faculty mentor, participate in research seminars and training experiences, and engage in individual and group mentoring sessions with distinguished faculty mentors including Co-Directors Drs. Minimum Qualifications:
