Cultiva La Salud has four full time job openings: Health Educator, Communications Specialist, Project Coordinator (2 positions.) We are a small but mighty public health advocacy organization in Fresno California working to advance health equity. We believe in community driven approaches and invest in community leadership development. While our main program efforts focus on the advancing policies that support healthy eating and active living we are currently deeply involved in COVID response efforts serving Latinos. - Health Educator: We are looking for a passionate Health Educator who will staff our COVID19 Equity Project. The ideal candidate should be interested in serving the Latino immigrant community in Fresno County. Chief duties will be to organize our health education efforts in response to COVID19, this includes health education efforts focused on COVID19 education and prevention, testing and vaccination. The ideal candidate will have at minimum a Bachelors Degree in Health Education or related field. Must be experienced in the development of health education materials, health education messaging and health promotion. This position requires experience in conducting focus groups, organizing field testing and designing materials. The candidate will engage Latino immigrant groups including youth. The Coordinator will develop with study team a range of dissemination products such as webinars, short stories for social media, infographics, and peer-reviewed manuscripts. The Coordinator will oversee a social media presence for dissemination of research findings. The Coordinator will work closely with the Dissemination Group Co-Leads, Dissemination Workgroup, and iTech investigators and staff to analyze data and create a range of dissemination products of iTech projects. This position is term-limited for 1 year of grant funding with the possibility of renewal.

POSITION: Post-doctoral Research Position

Organization Description
The Institute for Healthcare Delivery Science together with the Department of Population Health Science & Policyand the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai are seeking a highly motivated individual for a full-time post-doctoral research position. Ideal candidates will have an interest in health services research in the field of Orthopaedics, including (but not limited to) health policy research, patient-reported outcomes (PRO) research and comparative effectiveness research using existing large datasets, electronic health record (EHR) data and prospectively collected data.
Position Description
This position will fall under the Center for Clinical and Outcomes Research, a formal collaboration between the Department of Population Health Science & Policy and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. The Center’s productive research program spans a wide variety of topics, orthopaedic subspecialties and study types ranging from prospective clinical studies to retrospective studies using a variety of data sources such as MarketScan or Medicare claims data, EHR data and routinely collected PRO data for patients undergoing orthopaedic surgery. This provides a unique opportunity for a post-doctoral research fellow to explore the full breadth of research in this field, in a highly dynamic setting.
There is for example space for methods research, health policy research or clinical research that may be developed into competitive federal grant applications. These applications will be further strengthened by the high volume and diverse patient population at Mount Sinai. The post-doctoral research fellow will have an opportunity to collaborate in ongoing studies, lead new studies and independently direct and manage research activities.
In addition, the Center prioritizes mentoring of trainees (including 40-50+ medical students and residents) and the post-doctoral candidate will have ample opportunity to foster mentoring relationships.
With a growth trajectory in mind, we will provide assistance in placing the post-doctoral research fellow in a faculty position when appropriate.
The main focus of this post-doctoral research program will be to mentor the post-doctoral research fellow towards an independent academic research career in the dynamic field of Clinical and Outcomes research in Orthopaedics. The program will include being part of a highly productive research team (with ample opportunity to publish), developing and submitting grant proposals in collaboration with surgeons and other quantitative scientists in the Department of Population Health Science & Policy, analyzing data, and generating manuscripts for publication.
While this will be somewhat flexible based on the fellow’s interests, we anticipate a prioritization of the following research themes:
- Patient-centered outcomes research
- Evaluation / continued monitoring of new technology and approaches
- Outcomes research in general
- Health policy research
The post-doctoral research fellow will receive primary mentorship from Jashvant Poeran, MD PhD, the Director of the Center for Clinical and Outcomes Research. Fellows will work collaboratively with research staff, students, and faculty affiliated with the Department of Population Health Science & Policy and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery
Preferred Qualifications
Applicants with a background in Epidemiology, Public Health, Clinical-Translational, and/or Health Services research are preferred. Successful applicants will have experience in study design and the conduct of health services or clinical research and will have worked as part of a team. As this is a mentoring position, a publication record will be preferred but is not required. Importantly, we seek a candidate with strong quantitative skills including proficiency with a statistical analysis package (R, Stata, SPSS). Fellows must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and have completed a PhD in a relevant discipline.

Duties and Responsibility
- Lead ongoing and new Partnership Core(s) project databases and create processes to ensure that goals are met.
- Create and maintain REDCap databases for Partnership deliverables, research and outreach projects, including pulling data upon investigator request(s)
- Conduct fidelity/protocol compliance audits and QA of the databases, and will be responsible for regular review, and overall data quality, of various operational and programmatic data sets, working with teams to resolve errors in data
- Collect and review data for abstracts, manuscripts, and presentations.
- Compile and analyze data on cancer disparities to assist in the development of targeted program areas
- Analyze existing data sources and data flow for program management
- Serve as the primary contact for all levels of staff regarding data administration matters as they relate to the databases
- Generate reports to all necessary parties on the progress of Partnership deliverables, research projects, databases, or protocols.
- Meet with program staff to identify data needs and support in the creation of trackers/dashboards, and analytical tools as needed

Preferred Qualifications
You Are:
- Adept at database design concepts, data integrity and understanding the benefits and limits to various types of databases-including PC and online databases.
- Able to execute short term and long tern planning for database project needs and to decide how to efficiently store and analyze a variety of assorted data
- Adept at learning quickly, applying insights from past efforts to new situations.
- An effective communicator, willing to explore creative approaches to using data and capable of resolving how best to reach different audiences and executing communications based on that understanding
- Willing to take action and eager to embrace new opportunities and tough challenges with imperative thinking, high energy, and enthusiasm.
You Have:
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Statistics or relevant quantitative field with two years of data management and clinical research experience is preferred
- Strong analytical skills with the understanding of how to collect, analyze, interpret and prepare data for presentation (i.e., written, tabular and graphical formats).
- Ability to successfully engage with a range of partners
- Knowledge and direct experience with REDCap

Professor Stanley H. Weiss, MD is a tenured, full-time Professor of Medicine at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey, USA. A brief bio for him is posted here. (Dr. Weiss is also a professor of Biostatistics and Epidemiology at the Rutgers School of Public Health, and an Associate of the Rutgers Cancer Institute of NJ.)

The research positions (A, B and C) are in support of a five-year R01 grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), funded through June 2025. The research supported by this grant is part of Dr. Weiss’s larger epidemiological program, begun in the mid-1980s, studying long-term prospective cohorts of persons with a history of drug abuse. An overview of these cohort studies (written before we received the aforementioned R01 grant) is posted here. We also have several newer initiatives involving drug users, many with policy implications. We are now in the third year of a five-year non-competitive renewal cycle (and have already been asked to apply for the next continuation year).
The Public Health Representative II position is to coordinate activities of the Essex-Passaic Wellness Coalition, a bi-county chronic disease coalition, now in its 16th continuous year, and is funded by a grant (awarded annually) from the New Jersey Department of Health.
In anticipation of increasing levels of Covid-19 vaccination that will facilitate return to work, plus our need to work closely together and with our many partners, in-person work is anticipated (not virtual).
