POSITION: Project Management Intern Clinical Quality

Intern Responsibilities:

The Clinical Quality department of SOMOS seeks a Project Management Intern to lead all phases of the project lifecycle following project management methodology to successfully achieve clinical quality objectives for the delegated functions of time sensitive initiatives.  As the summer intern, you will gain hands-on experience working to support the team’s projects and establish schedules, data analytics and coordinate activities to ensure the success of projects from original concept to final implementation.

  • Initiating and maintaining project management documentation in a centralized logs or system, taking responsibility for identifying and coordinating resolution of all identified issues with the clinical quality team
  • Observing and actively participating in scheduled meetings and activities, as directed
  • Work with assigned team member to conducting research to obtain a better understanding of assigned tasks
  • Assisting with creating presentations and meeting preparations, as required. May be asked to present at meetings.
  • Interacting with and supporting team members across the business spectrum
  • Participating in ongoing projects and completing assigned tasks

Qualifications Intern Requirements:

  • Full-time rising junior or rising senior, currently enrolled at an accredited 4-year College or University
  • Or enrolled in a graduate degree program which aligns with the position such as Health Policy & Management Department
  • Interest in clinical and/or medical field a plus.

POSITION: Network Performance Intern

Intern Responsibilities:

This position will assist the Network with analyzing, designing, and implementing strategies to improve performance across the SOMOS network of PCPs and specialists.  Select projects could include:

  • Evaluation of our specialist network coverage in key neighborhoods and specialties to ensure patients have adequate access to specialty care
  • Rolling out strategies to decrease out-of-network spend and improve costs
  •  Design tools for PCPs to understand and manage their utilization, cost, and quality performance
  • Improve key processes with our health plan administration partner to increase operational efficiencies
  •  Implementing and rolling out a provider communications process for the Innovator network

Qualifications Intern Requirements:

Intern Responsibilities:

 As a level-three NYS VBP contractor, SOMOS is seeking a highly-ambitious and dedicated graduate student as summer analyst to help SOMOS’ Social Action Network team implement and manage a city-wide Social Determinant of Health Intervention program. The summer analyst will help in the implementation, project management, reporting and oversight of the initiative. 

Activities and tasks will include but is not limited to the following tasks:

  • Interact with Community Based Organizations (CBOs) that partner with SOMOS to plan and carry out the SDH intervention
  • Work with the SOMOS data analytics team to see how we can connect and share information between SOMOS and our partners 
  • Work with the care management team to develop and implement successful patient engagement strategies and participate in performance management meetings to see how we will assess and measure the success of the interventions

POSITION: Student Editor

ORGANIZATION: American Journal of Public Health 

The American Journal of Public Health has a unique training opportunity for students pursuing a career in public health. Please consider sharing this with your faculty and students.

AJPH is searching for a student to serve as an editor for the Journal in a one-year, unpaid fellowship program. The selected student’s tenure will begin in April 2021 and can be extended for another year, depending on performance evaluation and student status. Previous student editors have been able to receive up to 3 academic credits from their school for this one-year appointment with AJPH. APHA will sponsor travel twice a year — to the APHA Annual Meeting in the fall and the AJPH Editorial Meeting in the Spring — provided those meetings can be held in-person; otherwise, attendance by Zoom will be required.  

Job responsibilities/duties can be performed remotely and will include:

  • Working with associate editors to review submitted manuscripts to determine their relevance to the diverse AJPH audience and appropriateness for further peer review; 
  • Monitoring the review process; and 
  • Providing feedback on the readability of manuscripts. 

Preference will be given to individuals with:

  • A background in public health;
  • Master’s degree or higher;
  • Previous editorial experience; and
  • A social media presence.

The Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (OPDV) is the nation’s only Executive-level governmental agency dedicated to ending domestic violence and providing policy and technical assistance to the Governor and communities across the State as well as public awareness efforts for all New Yorkers impacted by our issue area. In 2021, the Governor has proposed to reimagine our Office to become the Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence. This reimagining will broaden the scope of the agency to include all intersecting issues involving gender-based violence which can impact individuals of any race, ethnicity, gender, socio-economic background, etc. The VISTA member, with OPDV, will coordinate the management of ten Regional Councils comprised of stakeholders that work with domestic and gender-based violence cases in communities across New York State. The VISTA member will analyze the work of the Regional Councils and develop a report based on stakeholder feedback which includes policy proposals that strengthen the State’s response to gender-based violence with an emphasis on innovation. The Port department is looking for a summer intern to join their team in the Port Newark Environmental Intern!  Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Intern will primarily assist the Senior Environmental Programs Specialist in Port Newark with environmental projects for our New Jersey seaports, including our port operations in Newark, Elizabeth, Bayonne, and Jersey City.
  • Intern projects may include reviewing historic environmental documents and mapping data into GIS, developing Key Performance Indicators to track environmental performance, performing research on port environmental best practices, and developing and implementing pilot projects and process improvements to yield environmental benefits to our ports.
  • Intern will have an opportunity to effect positive environmental changes on a variety of topics, which could include air emissions reductions, water quality improvements, hazmat handling and waste reduction, litter reduction, invasive species management, energy efficiency, pollution prevention and remediations, and renewable energy projects.
  • Intern will assist the Senior Environmental Programs Specialist with other daily tasks as needed, as well as gain exposure to general port operations through assignments from the New Jersey Marine Terminals Operations Manager.

About the Port Department:

The Port Department is a landlord port responsible for six facilities in the New York and New Jersey Port District that drive our regional economy.  As a landlord port, property is leased to private operators.  In your daily life, you encounter the goods that move through our facilities, such as the coffee in your mug, the car in your driveway, the furniture in your home, and the cell phone in your pocket.  The Port Authority also maintains and operates public berths, at which shippers can arrange to load and unload cargo.  Most of the vehicles coming into and out of the Port use public berths, as does most of the bulk and breakbulk cargo.  The Port Authority and port partners build, improve, and maintain most of the terminals’ facilities and underlying infrastructure.  The Port Authority has invested millions of dollars into the Port’s transportation connections, including intermodal infrastructure such as ExpressRail, as well as road connections to the surrounding highways, interstates, and the New Jersey Turnpike.  The Port Department’s mission is to develop and manage competitive port infrastructure and service by providing leadership to expedite movement of cargo in a secure, environmentally and financially sound manner.
