POSITION: MGH Career Development Program in Substance Use and Addiction Medicine

We are delighted to announce a new round of funding for postdoctoral clinician scientists and junior faculty (MD, PhD or equivalent) to receive support for training and career development in Substance Use and Addiction Medicine. Drs. Nancy Rigotti and Eden Evins (Principal Investigators) oversee the NIH-sponsored K12 career development grant from NIDA. The award aims to help the Scholar establish an independent research program in patient-oriented substance use and addiction research.
Scholars will be sponsored for 2-3 years of salary, project support and intensive mentored research training and career development with Harvard faculty in basic, translational, or clinical aspects of research in addiction medicine.

POSITION: Research Intern
ORGANIZATION: New York State Psychiatric Institute, HIV Center for Clinical & Behavioral Studies
Description:
TIME COMMITMENT: One or two full days per week
STUDY DESCRIPTION: Justice involved youth are at high risk for HIV and have high rates of substance use and disorders. The MoveUp study will determine the efficacy of delivering a health intervention that aims to inform justice involved youth aged 18-24 about HIV/STIs and substance use, and motivate and empower them to avoid behaviors that put their health at risk.
DUTIES: Interns will be asked to remotely conduct structured, 2 hour follow up interviews via computer and/or phone with study participants. They will also conduct participant tracking (both via telephone and home visits), data entry, and other office-related activities.
WHAT TO EXPECT: This unpaid internship offers the opportunity to learn about the process of conducting a large-scale randomized control trial. Interns will receive extensive training on interview and retention techniques, and will have the opportunity to gain skills and experience related to in-depth interviewing, participant and tracking, and data collection.
Qualifications:
Required:
– Ability to commitment at least 1 full workday (9 am –5 pm) per week
– Extremely organized and detail orientated
– Able to work independently and as a part of a team
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred:
– Bachelors Degree in psychology, social work, public health or related field
– Currently enrolled in a Master’s program
– Previous interviewing experience (but will train if no experience)
– Available to work some evenings and/or 1 weekend day
– Familiar with neighborhoods in Brooklyn, New York

POSITION: Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Substance Use and Adolescent Populations

The Tobacco Research Team at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position focused on substance use (new tobacco products, vaping) among adolescents. The postdoctoral fellow will join an active research and evaluation team working on multiple funded projects for state efforts to address the vaping epidemic.
The selected Fellow will participate in all aspects of research and evaluation including project management, development, implementation, and data analysis. The Fellow will author peer-reviewed publications, reports, and proposals to state and federal funding sources. The position offers ample opportunities for working with data from multiple projects, developing publications, interdisciplinary collaboration, professional networking, teaching, and enhancement of analytic skills. The Fellow will be encouraged to develop their own research agenda related to substance use and to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students. A doctoral degree in a relevant field is required (e.g., social work, criminal justice, psychology, sociology, public health). The ideal candidate will have strong mixed-methods research skills with experience analyzing survey, administrative, and qualitative data. Relevant experience and research interests should be noted in the letter of application. The primary assignment will be at the LMU Tobacco Research Team, under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator, Dr. Roberto Cancio on a Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program for the project entitled, “Youth Vaping in Los Angeles.” This three-year mixed-methods study integrates quantitative spatial data and qualitative interviews from adolescents in order to create geo-narratives.
