SUMMARY:TEDxCUNY 9th Annual PLAYBACK Conference
DESCRIPTION:Come rewind\, reflect\, and reimagine to pave a way forward at the TEDxCUNY PLAYBACK Conference! The event will feature live TEDx talks by CUNY faculty\, staff\, and students. In between talks will be a variety of workshops\, performances\, and other activities. \nEvery idea\, movement\, and breakthrough begins somewhere. As we grapple with the present\, it is critical to look back to the actions we’ve taken\, conflicts we’ve endured\, and resolutions we’ve found. Rewinding old tapes\, replaying cherished memories\, and repeating our favorite songs invites us to uncover the moments that define us. \nPlayback allows us to rest\, reflect\, and re-engage with the stories that have shaped our world. It challenges us to learn from our shared history and reimagine the future through the lens of discovery and insight: what have we learned\, and how can we use the past to pave a way forward? Together\, we pause the tapes to rediscover lost stories\, rethink old narratives\, and celebrate our resilience. \nDate: April 17\, 2026\nTime: 9am-5pm (feel free to drop in and out at your convenience)\nLocation: The Gerald W. Lynch Theater\, John Jay College of Criminal Justice \nRSVP here \nAll participants will receive a FREE SWAG bag as well as complimentary drinks and snacks. \n* Tickets are free to all CUNY students\n* CUNY faculty and staff can receive a discounted ticket at the price of $28.52 \n

DESCRIPTION:Public health careers take place in complex systems where not everything is within your control. During CUNY SPH Wellness Week\, the office of Counseling and Wellness Services and the Office of Career Services (OCS) are partnering to offer an interactive workshop introducing the 3 Circles framework (Control\, Influence\, Concern) as a tool for managing career-related stress and anxiety. \nThrough real-world scenarios\, participants will learn how to identify what they can act on\, where they can build influence\, and how to respond strategically to workplace challenges. The session is designed to strengthen resilience\, reduce unnecessary stress\, and help you navigate your professional path with greater clarity and confidence. \nAt the end of the presentation\, you will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A\, share your own personal experiences\, and be offered mutual support by workshop co-facilitators: Cesar León\, Ph.D (Counseling & Wellness Services) and Tina Lin (Career Services). \nEmail CareerServices@sph.cuny.edu for assistance with registering for this event on Handshake. \nCurrent CUNY SPH students welcome – RSVP now! \n

SUMMARY:Causal Learning for Individual and Population Health in the Era of AI
DESCRIPTION:May 14  |  4pm – 5:30pm  |  CUNY SPH (Room 717) & Virtual  |  RSVP \nJoin us for Grand Rounds with Dr. Linda Valeri! \nLinda Valeri\, PhD\, will discuss causal inference and technologies that reshape how we learn from data. These approaches will be explored to strengthen public health decision making at the individual level and generalizable evidence. Valeri will also discuss the challenges and opportunities for conducting ethical research in the era of AI and causal inference. \nAbout the Speaker \nDr. Linda Valeri is a tenured associate professor and program director at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health’s Biostatistics Department and also serves as an adjunct assistant professor of Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. \nValeri is an expert biostatistician who specializes in causal inference\, focusing on statistical learning and biostatistical methodology. Her research encompasses measurement error\, causal mediation analysis\, missing data\, and integrating data from multiple sources\, including smartphone and wearable devices\, life-course cohort studies\, and electronic medical records\, among diverse populations. She holds a doctorate degree in Biostatistics from Harvard University. \nValeri has also developed widely used open-access computational tools for causal inference which has benefited scientists across biomedical and social sciences. As PI awards from the National Institute of Aging\, the National Institute of Mental Health\, and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences she collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to advance our understanding of mental health across the life-course\, health disparities\, and environmental determinants of health\, contributing to informed evidence based policy-making. \nShe is active as editor for the Data Science section at Current Environmental Health Reports\, as associate editor for the International Journal of Biostatistics\, and as Statistical Editor for JAMA Psychiatry. Valeri is also enthusiastic in her service to the regional and national community of statisticians\, serving as co-chair of the program committee for the Eastern North American Region Conference of the Biometrics society and as elected Council of Sections Representative for the ASA Mental Health Statistics Section. \n
