SUMMARY:The Many Truths about Asian Americans: Debunking the Stereotype of the Model Minority
DESCRIPTION:Grand Rounds with Frank H. Wu\, JD \nAbout the event \nFrank H. Wu\, President of Queens College\, will share history\, law\, social science\, and personal experience to present a portrait of Asian immigrants and their American born progeny. His presentation will offer a new perspective on the civil rights movement\, integrating Asian Americans in a manner that advances the cause of social justice through bridge building. \nAbout the speaker \nFrank H. Wu serves as the eleventh President of Queens College. He was a member of the faculty at Howard University\, the nation’s leading historically black college/university (HBCU) for a decade. Frank is the author of Yellow: Race in America Beyond Black and White. Prior to his academic career\, he held a clerkship with the late U.S. District Judge Frank J. Battisti in Cleveland and practiced law with the firm of Morrison & Foerster in San Francisco. He received a B.A. from the Johns Hopkins University and a J.D. with honors from the University of Michigan. \nThese lectures will be held on the CUNY SPH campus\, but those who are unable to attend in person will be able to tune in to a livestream via Zoom. All those who wish to attend should RSVP. Virtual attendees will receive the livestream link after registering. \n  \n
