SUMMARY:Students for Racial Justice Support Group
DESCRIPTION:This group will meet weekly on Wednesdays at 5pm\, April 7th through May 12th. \nWe acknowledge the emotional and social challenges of doing antiracism work simultaneous to adjusting to the COVID-19 pandemic that has disproportionately impacted BIPOC. We name white supremacist terrorism as a threat to public health. At this time\, there are numerous reasons to fortify a racial justice movement rooted in intersectionality including but not limited to: \n\nThe extrajudicial killing of George Floyd and innumerable other unarmed Black people;\nthe increased violent and deadly attacks against the AAPI (Asian-American and Pacific Islander) community;\nthe ongoing crises at the border causing great harm to Latinx individuals and families;\na record-breaking number of Anti-Semitic hate crimes; and\nthe fight for the Native American population to protect its tribal lands and people against greed.\n\nSelf-care is crucial as we engage in activism on the ground and/or from our homes. With great respect\, we offer an open\, weekly\, virtual support group for SPH students promoting racial justice. The goal is mutual empowerment through sharing experiences and resources in a supportive environment where stress can be managed. If you would like more information please email Student Wellness Counselor Sherry Adams at sherry.adams@sph.cuny.edu. \n
