SUMMARY:SPH CARES: Translating Public Health Education into Community Impact
DESCRIPTION:About the lecture\nIn this Grand Rounds\, Dr. Joshi will emphasize the significance of translating public health educational excellence into greater community impact through multisector partnerships and sustainable community programs to promote health equity. \nAbout the speaker\nDr. Ashish Joshi is Dean and a Distinguished University Professor of the School of Public Health of the University of Memphis. Dr. Joshi has initiated a new model at UofM called SPH CARES\, with the goal of building an impactful school of public health that is committed to being a community-engaged\, anchor institute\, offering research-based solutions\, supporting entrepreneurship and innovation while remaining student-centric (CARES) along the pillars of inclusivity\, diversity\, equity\, accessibility\, and sustainability. \nPrior to his role as dean\, Dr. Joshi conceptualized the SMAART (Sustainable\, Multisector\, Accessible\, Affordable\, Reimbursable\, and Tailored) model to address health disparities and advance social\, economic and health equity. He has designed and developed\, standalone and internet-enabled\, multi-lingual\, digital health interventions such as population health dashboards\, consumer health informatics\, m-health interventions\, and population-based surveillance tools across multiple settings to improve population health outcomes. Dr. Joshi has engaged in over two dozen research projects in the areas of population health informatics across multiple countries including the U.S.\, India\, Nigeria\, Bangladesh\, Haiti\, Egypt\, and Brazil. He is also an author of the first textbook published on population health informatics\, Driving Evidence-Based Solutions Into Practice\, published by Jones Bartlett. \nDr. Joshi is the former senior associate dean for academic affairs at CUNY SPH and was presented with the inaugural 2022 CUNY SPH Legacy Award for his crucial role in the establishment of CUNY SPH as an independent graduate school within the CUNY system. \nThis lecture will be on the CUNY SPH campus\, but those who are unable to attend in person will be able to tune in to a livestream of the lecture via Zoom. All registrants should RSVP. Virtual attendees will receive the livestream link after registering. \nContinuing Education Credits\nContinuing education credit for certified public health professionals (CPH-CE\, 1 hour) may be earned by viewing this webinar.
