SUMMARY:Community-Based Participatory Research: How it can help our community
DESCRIPTION:A workshop from the CUNY SPH’s Harlem Health Initiative.\n \nThis workshop will present an introduction to Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR)\, a powerful framework to improve community health. CBPR provides guiding principles for communities to mobilize their power and resources\, and to work collaboratively with researchers to improve health and health equity. The workshop will be presented by two professors from the CUNY SPH Department of Community Health and Social Sciences. We will cover fundamental elements of CBPR – what it is\, how it works\, and how it can benefit your community – and include specific examples of successful CBPR efforts. There will be plenty of time for Q&A\, and also an opportunity to brainstorm ideas for how your communities and organizations can engage in\, and benefit from\, community engaged research. \nAbout the Presenters:\nMeredith Manze\, MPH\, PhD teaches and advises master’s and doctoral students on topics that span research methods (including participatory methods and using a CBPR orientation)\, community health assessment\, program planning\, grant writing\, and more. She is a mixed-methods researcher whose work focuses on reproductive health and health care. Dr. Manze’s most recent research investigates how colleges can better support students who have children. \nChris Palmedo\, PhD\, MBA teaches courses in health communication and health advocacy\, and directs the CUNY SPH master’s degree program in Health Communication for Social Change. His CBPR work includes working with communities to design and implement communication and advocacy strategies for health equity. \nDrs. Manze and Palmedo are co-authors of a college textbook focusing on personal health with a focus on upstream social determinants of health. \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nMeeting ID: 899 4468 6143\nPasscode: 248446\nOne tap mobile: +16468769923\,\,89944686143# US (New York) \n  \n
