SUMMARY:Closing the Treatment Gap with Implementation Science
DESCRIPTION:A workshop from the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy (CUNY SPH) and the Center for Innovation in Mental Health at CUNY SPH. \nAbout the event:\nOne of the most critical issues in public health across all disease areas is the enormous gap between what we know can optimize health and what gets implemented in everyday practice. The science of dissemination and implementation (D&I) seeks to address this gap by understanding how best to ensure that evidence-based strategies to improve health and prevent disease are effectively delivered in clinical and public health practice. This workshop will provide an overview of what D&I Science offers\, key models and theories\, and how D&I research addresses key questions needed to close the implementation gap. We will also go over evidence-based strategies such as community engagement\, partnerships\, etc. and challenges that are facing the field. There will be some time for Q&A\, and also an opportunity to brainstorm ideas for how your communities and organizations can engage in and benefit from community-engaged implementation science research and evaluation. \nAbout the presenter:\nVictoria Ngo\nVictoria Ngo is an Associate Professor of Community Health and Social Sciences at the City University of New York Graduate School of Public Health & Health Policy (CUNY SPH)\, Deputy Director of the Center for Innovation in Mental Health at CUNY SPH\, and Director\, Global Mental Health\, at the Center for Immigrant\, Refugee and Global Health at CUNY SPH. Also a licensed clinical psychologist\, she has expertise in developing\, evaluating\, and integrating evidence-based treatments\, such as cognitive behavioral therapy\, for depression\, anxiety\, and trauma in diverse communities in the United States and abroad. Her research pays particular attention to understanding and promoting implementation strategies\, such as use of community partnerships\, team models\, task-shifting evidence-based practices\, that can increase access and quality of evidence-based mental health services for ethnic minorities and underserved populations worldwide. \n
