SUMMARY:Care for the homeless: Helpless or Hopeful?
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a webinar on homelessness and mental illness in New York City. The focus will be on the state of homelessness in NYC and a systems approach to this crisis. \nThe learning objectives of this webinar are to: \n1. Define homelessness\n2. Understand epidemiology of mental illness and homelessness in New York\n3. Comprehend factors contributing to homelessness\n4. Learn about morbidities of homelessness\n5. Use clinical and systems approaches \nThe webinar will be followed by a discussion/Q&A session. \nAbout the presenter\nCarine Nzodom\, M.D. completed her residency at Louisiana State University Baton Rouge Psychiatry Residency Program followed by a fellowship in public psychiatry at Columbia University Department of Psychiatry/New York State Psychiatric Institute. She previously worked for the Center for Urban Community Services which is one of the largest providers of psychiatric care to the homeless and formerly homeless residents of NYC. She has provided services in non traditional settings such as soup kitchens\, supportive housing\, street and shelters. She is currently the Medical Director of Homeless Services for the Office of Behavioral Health at New York City Health and Hospitals. She is also an attending psychiatrist at Bellevue Hospital Center’s Extended Care Unit. Her interests include public psychiatry especially homeless psychiatry\, systems-based practice\, health care disparities\, minority mental health and medical education. \n
