COVID-19 Job Opportunities

The CUNY Career Success Initiative has compiled the following information on opportunities throughout New York for CUNY students and graduates: New York Recovery-Related Opportunities

 

New York City (via NYC Health + Hospitals)

NYC Health + Hospitals is currently hiring contact tracers and contact tracer supervisors to perform COVID-19 case interviews and contact tracing to support the citywide COVID-19 response using a trauma-informed, culturally respectful approach that builds trust and facilitates the free sharing of information. CUNY Students and alumni are encouraged to apply for any of the three available positions Contact Tracer I & II, and Supervising Contact Tracer. New York City (via CUNY Career Success Initiatives)

New York City is hiring 200-250 full-time Resource Navigators and Resource Navigator Supervisors to connect diagnosed individuals and their contacts to relevant aid resources and to manage resource navigator teams. CUNY students and alumni are encouraged to apply to these positions. New York City (via NYC Service)

The VISTA Summer Associates Program, a NYC Service initiative, will help city agencies and nonprofits continue to provide services for low-income and vulnerable New Yorkers over the summer. NYC Service’s VISTA Summer Associates Program will address three key needs prevalent in New York City in response to COVID-19:

1. Food Access – VISTA Summer Associates will provide food to New Yorkers who are food insecure and/or homebound by assisting with food inventory inspections and packaging, the loading and unloading of food delivery vehicles, and the (contactless) delivery of food to residences, or by supporting the recruitment and placement of volunteers with NYC-based emergency food providers.

2. Education – VISTA Summer Associates will assist in the creation of professional development trainings and resources for NYC Department of Education school administrators, staff, and families to prepare for the 2020-21 school year, as well as support a caseload of graduating high school seniors with key matriculation tasks to ensure they successfully enroll at CUNY campuses in the fall.

3. Senior Services – VISTA Summer Associates will support in the implementation and monitoring of a coordinated approach to senior wellness, developing a range of wellness materials that support social engagement and connection to community.

 

New York State

NYSDOH launched the NYS COVID-19 Contact Tracer Initiative on May 1. CUNY students and graduates are encouraged to apply for any of the three available positions: Contact TracerTeam Supervisor or Community Support Specialist.  DOH will initially focus recruitment on Westchester and Suffolk counties and roll out recruitment across other downstate counties every two weeks through mid-June.  Applicants will most likely be hired based on location – though this may vary based on qualified candidates and geographic need.

 

CDC (via the CDC Foundation)

The CDC Foundation is actively hiring for their COVID Response Corps for positions including contact tracers, epidemiologists, nurses, project managers, administrative assistants, and others – in locations around the country. Today there are many job postings on their COVID-19 Corps jobs website, and it is being updated with new opportunities daily. For graduating students of public health with an undergraduate or master level degree this spring, students are encouraged to look at the listing at the end of the job postings for contact tracers nationwide. There are a number of contract tracer positions and as the front line COVID public health workers, these positions provide an outstanding opportunity to work with the nation’s lead agency charged with protecting the public’s health.

 

Vital Strategies

Time sensitive: Apply ASAP

Bloomberg Philanthropies, along with Tom Frieden of Resolve to Save Lives, is supporting the contact tracing efforts of various jurisdictions, including NYC and NYS. In support of this effort, Vital Strategies is assembling a team to help with urgent and extensive scale up of coronavirus contact tracing capacity in NYS and some other jurisdictions. This 18-person team will work closely with public health departments to ensure that contact tracing is conducted at scale, with utmost technical rigor and operational optimization.

They are seeking to fill nine key positions immediately, starting with 6-month contracts that may be extended to 12 months. The positions are: DirectorDeputy DirectorSenior Evaluation AdvisorSenior Technical Advisor (one for each jurisdiction); Community Engagement Consultant; and Contact Tracing Communications Consultant.

Ideal candidates will have solid public health technical skills, familiarity with state or local public health department structures, a nuanced understanding for what is needed for successful contact tracing, a strong work ethic, and above all, genuine drive to work collaboratively, think creatively, and be open to learning.
