CUNY SPH Dean Ayman El-Mohandes moderated a panel discussion last week on public health programs at CUNY Community Colleges at the 2019 League for Innovation in Community Colleges Conference.
Presenters Associate Professor Andrea Salis and Assistant Professor Anuradha Srivastava of Queensborough Community College, and panelists Stacia Reader, Associate Professor of Health, Physical Education and Recreation at Bronx Community College and Lesley Rennis, Associate Professor of Health Education at the Borough of Manhattan Community College all participated in the discussion.
The Dean gave a brief overview of CUNY’s importance and depth in the area of public health, and encouraged the presenters and panelists to share their experiences with introducing public health programs at the community college level, drawing them out with questions about curriculum, level of interest from both students and administration, and how well their programs prepared students for future employment.
“I was delighted to hear about the important work of our community colleges in the field of public health,” said Dean El-Mohandes. “It is essential that public health programs at CUNY community colleges are supported so that the tools needed to create a healthier world are accessible to all.”
The League for innovation in Community Colleges Conference provides a forum for collaboration among academic experts and thought leaders, while granting participants exclusive access to the most inventive and inspirational community college programs from around the world.
