The CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute is pleased to announce that Craig Willingham will join us as Deputy Director in late October. For the last four years, Craig has worked for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, most recently at its Center for Health Equity. At DOHMH, Craig has played a key role in working with supermarkets, bodegas, farmers markets and other food retail outlets to expand access to healthy affordable food in New York City neighborhoods. He also led the Department’s initiative to analyze the role that race and racism play in shaping inequitable access to healthy food in New York City and develop appropriate strategies to mitigate these effects. Craig has an undergraduate degree from Brooklyn College and a Masters in Public Health Nutrition from Hunter College and the CUNY School of Public Health.
