1.Position: Epidemiologist I/Specialist

5.Position: Research Manager, MaxART Early Access to ART for All Study

SUMMARY:   Founded in 2002 by President William J. Clinton, the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to strengthening integrated health systems around the world and expanding access to care and treatment for HIV/AIDS, malaria and other illnesses. Based on the premise that business oriented strategy can facilitate solutions to global health challenges, CHAI acts as a catalyst to mobilize new resources and optimize the impact of these resources to save lives, via improved organization of commodity markets and more effective local management. By working in association with governments and other NGO partners, CHAI is focused on large scale impact and, to date, CHAI has secured lower pricing agreements for treatment options in more than 70 countries. In addition, CHAI’s teams are working side-by-side with over 30 governments to tackle many of the largest barriers to effective treatment and care.

In Swaziland, CHAI has been working in partnership with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and other stakeholders to develop sustainable strategies to address Swaziland’s public health priority areas since 2007. Current work includes increasing access to high-quality and affordable medicines, malaria elimination, sustainable health financing and the MaxART project, that builds on this close collaboration with the government.

In Swaziland, the country with the highest HIV prevalence in the world, a consortium of multi-disciplinary stakeholders[1], led by the Government of Swaziland, is managing an initiative called, MaxART – Maximizing ART for Better Health and Zero New HIV Infections. MaxART includes a unique package of interventions aimed at ensuring that all individuals who need it have access to high quality HIV testing, treatment, and lifelong care.

With these strong systems and improved understanding of the realities and needs on the ground, the Government of Swaziland – in collaboration with the MaxART Consortium – has also embarked on a 3-year Early Access to ART for All (EAAA) Implementation Study to understand the feasibility, acceptability, clinical outcomes, affordability, and scalability of offering treatment for people living with HIV irrespective of CD4 in government-managed health facilities in Hhohho region. There is now considerable evidence from clinical trials that Early Access to ART (also known as “HIV treatment as prevention”) could both improve the health of people living with HIV and dramatically reduce the rates of new HIV infection. But evidence is needed to assess what is required to implement this approach in a “real world” setting – and Swaziland is ready to lead the way. In the context of the EAAA study, CHAI Swaziland is currently seeking a highly motivated individual with outstanding credentials to fill the Research Manager position.

[1] The MaxART Consortium is comprised of STOP AIDS NOW!, Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), Swaziland National Network of People Living with HIV (SWANNEPHA), Global Network of People living with HIV (GNP+), South Africa Centre for Epidemiological Modeling and Analyses (SACEMA), Southern Africa HIV & AIDS Information Dissemination Service (SAfAIDS), in collaboration with in-country partners including the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)’s implementing partners, Médecins Sans Frontières, and the United Nations.

 QUALIFICATIONS: The MaxART Research Manager will work closely with the Senior Research Manager to support the implementation of the Early Access to ART for All Implementation Study. The Research Manager will have primary responsibility for the implementation of the research in the health system. Specific responsibilities include:

* Technical oversight and day-to-day management of the study’s implementation, including development and adherence to study operating procedures, policies, and study work planning and logistics among all health system and health facility activities. * Manage project administration including preparation of work plans, budgets/reforecast, narrative and financial reports in collaboration with the Senior Research Manager, with ownership of the health facility components of the study. * Develop all study documents and tools in collaboration with the Primary Research Team, ensure strong and timely execution of study’s implementation plan, and implement systems for strengthening operations and field efficiencies. * Coordinate the procurement of study-related supplies, including medications and laboratory supplies, and manage established partnerships with both Mylan and MSF. * Collaborate with Primary Research Team to regularly present results of study to a variety of audiences and key stakeholders. * Collaborate closely on a daily basis with technical level of government and other implementing partners, at national and regional level, to ensure the study is informed by other activities and preliminary study findings are shared in all relevant forums. * Serve as knowledge base on current trends and findings from universal HIV treatment research to ensure the MaxART study is aligned and relevant to global evidence. * Able to act as Senior Research Manager as needed. * Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

* Degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, or related field. THE OPPORTUNITY:

The position will support reportable communicable disease surveillance, investigation and reporting, and will be a critical component of the Health Care Agency’s response to communicable disease outbreaks and events of public health concern. 10.Position: Data Analyst Sr- Lead Epidemiologist

SUMMARY: The Arkansas Reproductive Monitoring System (ARHMS), within the Section of Birth Defects Research in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Arkansas Children’s Hospital Research Institute (ACHRI), seek candidates for the position of Data Analyst Sr./Lead Epidemiologist. The Lead Epidemiologist will collaborate with existing faculty in the design and implementation of genetic epidemiology studies and will provide expertise in management, analysis, and interpretation of birth defect surveillance, laboratory and research project data. The Epidemiologist will be responsible for maintaining and updating analysis procedures and protocols for data manipulation and quality assurance and control procedures for ARHMS and other research projects. The successful candidate will utilize appropriate epidemiologic and statistical methods in data analysis using statistical software (e.g., SAS, STATA, SPSS, etc.), and various other databases, graphics, mapping, spreadsheet, and word processing applications and will be responsible for becoming an expert in birth defects data, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Birth Defects Prevention Study and BD-STEPS databases. The Epidemiologist will work closely with the Section for Birth Defects Research’s Database Manger and ARHMS Directors to ensure the ARHMS database is maintained and updated as needed. The Epidemiologist will also work closely with faculty, research and public health partners, community organizations and external organizations (e.g., the National Birth Defects Prevention Network) that collaborate with, or request data or reports from ARHMS or the Center. The position will train faculty/staff who work as data analysts and data managers within the Section, including biostatisticians, epidemiologists and bioinformaticians, on the use of Section databases and analytic research data programs, and will serve as the Section’s liaison with the state’s Center for Health Statistics at the Arkansas Department of Health and perform other duties as assigned.

 QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates must have a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or a directly related field. The successful candidate should have a minimum of five years of experience using statistical software (e.g. SAS, STATA, SPSS, R, etc.) for analysis of public health or clinical databases. The candidate must be skilled in the organization of program and disease reporting data as well as in analysis and must possess expert skills in Excel, Microsoft Access, and SAS or SPSS statistical software for data management and analysis and have the ability to participate in group decision-making concerning research design, methods, and protocol. They must have the ability to learn all relevant birth defects data systems and interpret statistical analyses of epidemiologic and research data and possess advanced written communication and presentation skills, as well as the ability to train others regarding quality data collection and data entry. They must be able to interpret surveillance guidance and research protocols and work with local and state health agency personnel and allied groups and have the ability to gather, assemble, and analyze data to devise solutions to problems and to develop and evaluate policies and procedures and state health agency personnel and allied groups. The successful candidate will have the ability to work effectively as a team player, possess orientation to detail, strong organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously. Organization: Bureau of Epidemiology Services in the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH)

SUMMARY: The Surveys and Data Analysis Unit in the Bureau of Epidemiology Services in the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene would like to hire a CUNY student under the MOU PIN # 14AD000501R0X00. DOHMH is seeking a consultant to develop a dataset for use within DOHMH and by the public for the New York City Child Health Emotional Wellness & Development Survey (CHEWDS), and for use by the public for the 2009 NYC Child Community Health Survey.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Data have already been collected, and now there is a need to facilitate the analysis of the data. Dataset development will include (1) checking recodes of variables created by others as well as developing new recodes, (2) creating documentation such as questionnaires, codebooks, documentation of recodes, and crosswalks of variables common across years, and (3) creating SAS datasets that include formats, weights, and other elements needed for analysts’ use. The consultant will also analyze the datasets when requests for data are made to DOHMH. The consultant will need to work at DOHMH headquarters at 42-09 28th Street, Long Island City, NY 11101, during 8 AM through 6 PM hours, Monday through Friday.

Goals and deliverables: The student will assist the unit with developing datasets for use within DOHMH and the public about the health of NYC children, and in analyzing those data, as well as providing other analytic support to the Surveys and Data Analysis Unit as needed.

 If external requests are made for data analysis, conduct those requests, along with a second analyst through a data-checking process
